Established in 1908, the California chapter of the Alpha Delta Phi Literary Fraternity (ΑΔΦ) has been home to generations of brothers who have continued a tradition of excelling in all areas, social, moral, and intellectual. Alpha Delta Phi's founder, Samuel Eells, believed that other student organizations at Hamilton College lacked integrity and had a negative influence on students and the commun
ity. He therefore endeavored to create a new, expansive, self-perpetuating organization that had integrity and youthful character:
The California Chapter of the Alpha Delta Phi was chartered in 1908 and is one of the oldest Greek letter societies at Cal. From its inception, the California Chapter has only accepted those academic and motivated young men recommended by members of the faculty and community. Our purpose is to mold individuals of an established means into well-rounded and successful persons that share a fraternal, intellectual, and moral closeness. Besides offering a center for social and university life, the California Chapter of the Alpha Delta Phi also hosts networking and professional development events, as well as weekly dinners and literary presentations. Throughout its history, undergraduate Brothers of the California Chapter have been active members and leaders in their college, athletic organizations, and local community. The House celebrates a proud military heritage with various philanthropy efforts dedicated to veterans.
