Take a look at the amazing photographs by Matthew Mayes (MDP Class of 2019)
Indonesian batik is a technique in which wax is applied to textiles before dyeing to create patterns. The artwork involves heating wax with propane, a practice that graduate student Matthew Mayes found could be improved upon. As a member of the UC Berkeley Master of Development Practice (MDP) Program and a USAID Global Development Fellow, Mayes traveled to Bali and Java to study the integration of biogas and bio-slurry into the batik production process.
