One giant sheet of paper, many little hands, and endless imagination! 💭

This week, our forest artists each had their own space to draw and contributed to a shared masterpiece—learning to balance individual expression with community effort. 🖍️

As they worked side-by-side under the trees, they practiced cooperation, negotiated space, and connected their ideas—building empathy, spatial awareness, and creative problem-solving along the way. Nature surrounded and inspired them, making the experience even more magical. 🍃🎨

This week at Two Pines, the forest became our studio! The children learned how to make their own sculpture paste—starting with digging into the earth to gather mud, tearing paper into pulp, and mixing it all together with so much excitement and teamwork.

With muddy hands and big imaginations, they sculpted animals, volcanoes, imaginary creatures, and tiny homes. The joy of transforming raw, natural materials into expressive forms was written all over their faces.

This hands-on process was so much more than messy fun—it supported fine motor development, sensory exploration, and collaborative problem-solving. Most importantly, it nurtured a sense of agency and belonging, as the children discovered that even the earth beneath their feet can become a tool for expression. In our forest school setting, where nature is both guide and resource, every stick, stone, and handful of mud holds the potential for learning, connection, and creativity.🪣🪏🌏🌳

Today we introduced charcoal as a new drawing medium for the children, encouraging them to explore beyond the usual tools such as pencils, crayons markers or paint. This simple shift sparked a noticeable increase in creativity—children became more expressive, experimenting with bold lines, shading, and texture.

Using natural materials like charcoal not only connects them more deeply with their environment but also opens their eyes to different artistic possibilities, showing that creativity isn’t limited to traditional tools.🌳

Happy Earth Day from our school!🌎

Today we celebrated our beautiful planet in the best way—with laughter, learning, and a little cleanup mission! We had a fun joke going around that it’s Earth’s birthday, so we gave it a present: a cleaner site and a promise to protect our land.

Our children took part in a hands-on activity, walking around the school grounds, searching for trash, and learning how important it is to keep nature clean. They discovered how litter affects the environment and the animals that live in it. It was amazing to see how excited they were to find even the tiniest bits of trash, working together to make a difference.

This activity not only helped keep our site clean, but it also taught the kids valuable lessons about responsibility, teamwork, and caring for the planet. They felt proud knowing they could help protect the Earth—one piece of trash at a time.

We’re proud of our little Earth heroes!🌎🌱

One of the core pillars of forest school is relationships. The ability to build friendships, show empathy, navigate conflicts, cooperate, and communicate effectively flourishes in an environment where children engage in free, unstructured play—away from the distractions of toys, playgrounds, or rigid activities.

At Two Pines Forest School, relationships and friendships are at the heart of everything we do. We foster them through an emphasis on kindness, care, and the creation of a loving, supportive community. Strong relationships are not just essential in childhood—they are one of the key foundations of lifelong happiness and well-being, shaping a person’s sense of belonging and fulfillment throughout life.🌱💕

Worms play a crucial role in forest school learning, offering young minds a chance to explore the wonders of nature firsthand. These fascinating creatures help improve soil health by aerating it and breaking down organic material, creating a vibrant ecosystem beneath the ground.

By observing worms in their natural habitat, children gain a deeper understanding of biodiversity, environmental stewardship, and the interconnectedness of life. Plus, hands-on experiences like worm exploration foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for nature that lasts a lifetime.🪱

Rainy days are the most fun days in our forest school! Playing in the rain and exploring the outdoors provide valuable sensory experiences and support emotional development.

Rain also offers a powerful resistance practice—learning to embrace discomfort, adapt to changing conditions, and find joy in the elements. When children jump in puddles, feel the raindrops on their skin, and navigate slippery terrain, they are building resilience, problem-solving skills, and body awareness.

And remember, children are washable, so let them get muddy!🌧️🌳

Little hands, big discoveries! 🌿🐞

Our tiny explorers had a blast making bug leaves, decorating leaves with natural materials to create their own little forest critters. This simple yet magical activity helps 2-year-olds develop fine motor skills, creativity, and a deeper connection to nature. Plus, it sparks storytelling and imaginative play! ✨🍃

As we step into a brand-new year, we’re still reminiscing about the warmth and love we shared during our Solstice Celebration. 🌞❄️

Gathering with our wonderful TPFS families to mark the turning of the seasons was truly magical. Together, we celebrated light, joy, and connection—reminders of what truly matters. 🌿💛

Here’s to carrying that same spirit of love and togetherness into 2025. Wishing everyone a year filled with wonder, growth, and plenty of nature-filled adventures!
