Safe, cheap, fun sailing and windsurfing! Cal Sailing Club is a non-profit, volunteer-run sailing club located in Berkeley on beautiful San Francisco Bay.

CSC provides the community an affordable means of learning about boating safety, sailing, and windsurfing at all levels, and access to great equipment.

Open House is a great way to get a glimpse of what sailing is about! The event is free - and it's run 100% by volunteers. Check out cal-sailing.org for upcoming dates

Cal Sailing Club could stay in its long-held berths at Berkeley Marina 09/26/2024

Grateful for this great news coverage on Berkeleyside this morning. Leaving comments of support is encouraged and welcome! 🙏

Cal Sailing Club could stay in its long-held berths at Berkeley Marina The city had considered asking the nonprofit to move elsewhere in the Marina to make space for bigger boats, but Cal Sailing argued a spot at the end of a dock is key to teaching sailing.

Thank you to the volunteers who came out to the whipping party ! Daisy and Sea Horse are almost done with all new running rigging - whipping is a method to prevent lines from fraying. ⛵️

Dear CSC community,

We are reaching out as the Cal Sailing Club needs your help. As some of you know already, the club has started a petition last week.

Short version: Please consider signing this petition to help us, if you have not already, it only takes a minute, and please share with your friends if you've already signed: https://chng.it/9VXmtsJyjY

Long version: Recently, the Marina has informed us that we might be moved to another location where would not be able to run our full education program.

Our keelboats have been in the same location on J-Dock for 50 years. CSC has six keelboats as part of our fleet - three Pearson Commander 26, two Merit 25, and a J-80. With our keelboats, we teach docking under sail which is not so common at other sailing schools. The location we have currently is very important as it is unique in the marina, allowing students to practice new skills in a safe manner.

We would not be able to teach docking under sail in a way that would be safe, and we would end up motoring more, and docking under sail would be an important skill that would slowly be lost.

It would not cost more to the City and Marina to keep us in our current location.

We are working with members of the City Council to pass a resolution that would protect the slips we are in to dedicate them to teaching safe sailing. This petition will come in support of this work.

We have a longer support letter that explains all of this in more detail, and gives background information about all the things that the club does: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QN9LRxXyuYEL2B8aLW4jFhfKu7r1Pa470VAzABypeL4/edit

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION NOW TO KEEP SAFE AND AFFORDABLE SAILING IN YOUR COMMUNITY. Help us keep our six berths at J-dock.

Also please share this petition or post, that greatly helps us spread the word.

Thank you to those who came out to the winch clinic - with a little bit of kerosene, grease and 3-in-1 oil, some tooth brushes and kind working hands the keelboat winches are back in shape ⛵️
