BISPCal

BISPCal The Berkeley International Study Program (BISP) provides short-term study abroad opportunities for visiting international students.

The Berkeley International Study Program provides short-term study abroad opportunities on a space availability basis for visiting international students to study at UC Berkeley for one or two semesters. BISP students pay fees to the UC Berkeley Extension office, who also provide the necessary student visa documents and infrastructure needed to earn credit in UC Berkeley courses that can transfer

back to visiting international students’ home university. BISP students take courses side-by-side with UC Berkeley students each semester on a space-availability basis. BISP students’ academic studies are enriched by their experiences at UCB, and the university’s professors and students value having international applicants join the class. There are two ways to apply to the Berkeley International Study Program, either through an agreement with your home institution, or as an independent student. Please refer to the following website for details and application guidelines and deadlines:

Future teachers, your study abroad journey to becoming a globally-minded educator starts here at UC Berkeley, the #1 public university in the world.

The BISP in Teacher Education initiative welcomes bachelor’s and master’s students who are ready to transform their future careers in education. Through a 16-week semester of flexible coursework and hands-on placement in local Bay Area schools, BISP in Teacher Education students will build the global perspectives and in-demand teaching skills that will prepare future teachers for leading diverse classrooms and schools.

Previous Teacher Education students share more:

✏️Marte, MA Teacher Education-Math, UiT The Arctic University of Norway: “Berkeley was not only an amazing place to live and meet new people, but also a great learning experience. I took courses in equity, inquiry-based learning, research, and educational technology, which showed me different ways students learn and how diversity can be a real strength in the classroom.”

✏️Ya-Cheng, MA Special Education, NTUE: “This BISP experience has shown me the greatness and possibilities of special education. Engaging in dialogue with professionals from other fields has allowed me to recognize my own shortcomings while broadening my knowledge and discovering my passion for research.”

✏️Andreas, MA History with Teacher Education, NTNU: “I saw going abroad as an invaluable experience and also an opportunity for personal growth. Furthermore, I wanted to challenge myself by going to a prestigious and well-known university. Berkeley fit these criteria perfectly...Berkeley is a transformative experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

✏️Jeanette, MA Special Education, University of Oslo: “This is my second time and when I got the chance to study here again I grabbed the chance as fast as possible. I have better contact with my professors and the student environment is unlike any other. I really had no idea that this was gonna be such an inspirational year!”
