Do you have a passion for computational biology, biostatistics, computer science, or other related fields? ULAB's Computational Biology Lab is currently seeking mentors and students for the Fall 2021-Spring 2022 academic year!
The purpose of this course in computational biology is to give undergraduates an opportunity to gain fundamental research skills, explore relevant background knowledge, and conduct their own research project in groups. Our goal is to help students feel confident and prepared to seek out on-campus opportunities in the exciting field of computational biology.
Mentors will guide an undergraduate team of 4-6 students through the process of designing and working on a research project within their area of interest. Teams will present their projects at an end-of-year symposium. Mentors and mentees both receive 2 units through IB 98. Some of our past projects have ranged from determining the best peanut protein candidates for gene editing to understanding the impact of synonymous variants in Alzheimer’s disease!
The application for mentors is due on Thursday, September 2nd at 11:59 PM. The application for mentees is due on Friday, September 3rd at 11:59 PM. Find more information and our application on our website: https://ulab.berkeley.edu/labs/compbio. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]! And be sure to catch us at the DeCal Fair on Tuesday, August 31st from 6-8 PM on Memorial Glade!

Do you have a passion for mcb, public health, environmental science, psychology or other related subjects? Then join ULAB's Biology & Public Health Lab! We are currently looking for mentors to help facilitate the projects that students would be starting in this lab.
It should be noted that this is almost an inverse psych lab structure: instead of graduate students deciding on the project and then delegating tasks to their undergraduate students, the undergraduate students take the lead in deciding on a research question and developing the project under supervision and advice of a mentor.
Throughout the academic year, students will run an experiment within their team and write an empirical paper about it. The students will also present their projects at an end-of-the-year symposium to which graduate students and professors will be invited.
The application is due by Sept. 11th at 5pm, with subsequent rolling admission until September 14th
We will reach out to applicants on Sept. 15th, and then on a rolling basis!
