POLICY REMINDER

Thinking about taking a class somewhere other than UC Berkeley?

Once you’re enrolled in the College of Engineering, you need permission before taking courses at another institution.

- Summer or a semester you’re not enrolled at Berkeley: Talk with your ESS Adviser before registering.

- Fall or spring while you’re enrolled at Berkeley: Simultaneous enrollment is generally not allowed. In very unusual circumstances, you may be able to get permission — but you must talk with your ESS Adviser before enrolling elsewhere.

- Why this matters: If you take courses at another school during fall or spring while enrolled at Berkeley without prior approval, you will not receive unit or course credit for those courses.

When in doubt, ask your ESS Adviser before you register. It’s much easier to check first than to find out later that the course won’t count.

Find your ESS Adviser through the link in our bio.

The easiest trap to fall into at Berkeley?

Comparing yourself to everyone around you.

Marvin Lopez, Director of Programs for Engineering Student Services, shares one piece of advice every new Berkeley Engineering student should hear:

"The only person they should compare themselves to is in the mirror."

Every student has a different path. Focus on your own goals, your own growth and your own journey.
