The areas in which MRC conducts research and offers training fall into five principal fields:
1. Hermeneutics and translation theory.

Mangalam Research Center for Buddhist Languages supports research in Buddhist studies and hosts courses, talks, conferences and workshops online and in Berkeley. Study of the canonical languages: Sanskrit, Tibetan, Chinese, Pāli, and Gāndhārī.
2. Advanced training in philology, linguistics, and lexicography: grammar, meanings, usage, etymologies, and varying contexts of Dharma terms and translatio
