not only are we HIRING, this week also marks the start of MEMBER RECRUITMENT: links to both in bio.
yes, membership: the whole reason we are the Berkeley Student Food *Collective* in the first place. volunteer and get 10% off, voting rights in our co-op, access to exclusive socials and tours, a spot in one of campus' most active student communities, and a bunch of free food. that's the wager our leadership makes each year: to have an amazing affordable grocery store by campus, UC Berkeley students will be willing to donate a small amount of their time each week. and not only have they been correct, our membership has been growing. dramatically.
join us and help build on a twelve year, student-led vision of what campus grocery should look like — and make some lifelong friends in the process. foodcollective.org/apply; link in bio.

Hooray for more and more worker-owned, worker-run co-ops. And may cooperative home living lead to more collective businesses every year.
Workers rising: The push for city-supported worker coops is taking hold in these Bay Area cities The Sustainable Economies Law Center was featured in the East Bay Times yesterday for its policy advocacy efforts in Berkeley following the Berkeley City Council's historic vote on June 26, 2019, to commit $100,000 towards worker cooperative programs and services.
At a Special Dinner sometime in 1990-91, some elf made a huge batch of CHICKPEA FUDGE. It wasn't bad, but it did have a peculiar, distinctive scent. Not quite like anything else you ever smelled.
And then in a mixup over who had the post-party cleaning shifts and who had signed up to do the regular weekly North House living room clean, two giant baking pans of leftover chickpea fudge got left out on tables for about ten days. Moderately fermented chickpea fudge became the new scent of North House for almost a year.
What food or other scent from when you lived at Loth became accidentally unforgettable?
