"U.C. Workers Protest as Negotiations Begin with Campus." Check out the Daily Cal coverage of yesterday's AFSCME workers picket to kick off the first day of bargaining! Students came out to show support for workers demanding a fair contract and just working conditions for campus service workers!
“We’re trying to get the UCs to see that we want them to stop raising student fees. We want them to stop cutting from the bottom, and start cutting from the top,” Stokes said. “We’ve been doing more with less, and we just can’t provide quality service with all of these cuts.” - Eugene Stokes, campus maintenance worker.

44 years ago today, members of AFSCME Local 1695 marched through Berkeley in support of the Memphis Sanitation strike and in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated days earlier while organizing for the strike.
