Most designers began their careers designing single family homes. Nearly every collection in the Environmental Design Archives contains numerous designs for both home owners and developers. In addition to residences that reflect regional climate and lifestyle, these renderings particularly serve as documents of social history illustrating lifestyle, gender roles, family life, relationships, domestic desires, and the use of residential spaces. Earth Week Collection Highlight: When designers Randy Hester and Marcia McNally began their work to save the endangered Black-faced Spoonbill in 1997, there were fewer than 500 Spoonbills counted. Years of dedicated engagement with students and partners using comprehensive and participatory approaches have created a hopeful outcome. In 2023, the Spoonbill count was 6,603.

Help us preserve the records of this amazing effort and make them available for future generations. Please donate to our Earth Week fundraising campaign http://ow.ly/2Zrn50NRRpp
