Spongebob was a huge success-selling out every show! The students sang and danced, and bonded together in ways only an intense performance can create. This was a great way to end the school year, and for many, their time at Walden. The community came together to create the set, the costumes, and perform in the band. It's times like these we recognize what a vibrant and creative community Walden is.

Spring Fair was so much fun this weekend! One sweet Walden tradition is for families to bring festive, delicious cakes, and then the kids get to wander around the tables and choose their favorites. The combination of celebration, beautiful cakes, and the children’s excitement makes the event feel especially magical and community-centered.

Upper Group students went on a fun kayaking field trip this spring. Students propelled through the bay on a splendid Friday morning. Our wonderful grown-up chaperones also kayaked with the students! Kayaking is only one of the many outdoor trips Walden students take throughout the year. Other outdoor excursions include walks to local parks, trips to the farm, coastal cleanups, yearly camping overnights, and more.

Reflections (March 6th - 8th) was an immersive, site-specific exhibition created by Walden students and Teaching Artist Julianne Hughes, with collaborators Debra Wong, Ricardo Diaz, and Ayako Hiwasa. It was made, in community, with families of The Walden Center and School. The exhibit was centered on ideas of art as process, reflection as a way of remembering, and making as a form of connection. The installation invited visitors into a shared narrative shaped by participation and care.

Inspired by the spirit of Henry David Thoreau and Walden Pond, the work considers the power of a central place of reflection—one that brings us back to ourselves while deepening our relationship to others. Visitors interacted with elements drawn from Walden Center and School’s history—stitching a shared quilt and making a candle to hold light. Reflections unfolded as a gathering space rather than a fixed exhibition: a gift to the community, a living conversation, and an invitation to consider how art, made together, can transform how we see, remember, and belong. As time goes on, the current community reflects and reaffirms our belief that the act of art-making is essential.
