🧫 Sometimes the most important scientific discoveries happen when something unexpected catches a scientist’s attention.

On this day in 1928, Alexander Fleming noticed that a mold growing in one of his petri dishes was preventing bacteria from growing nearby. That accidental observation led to the discovery of penicillin, the world’s first widely used antibiotic and a breakthrough that transformed modern medicine.

During a recent professional learning session in Medford, kindergarten educators experienced the FOSS Animals Two by Two module firsthand.

Through investigations, sense-making discussions, science notebooks, and informational texts, teachers explored how FOSS builds the background knowledge, vocabulary, and reasoning skills that support reading comprehension.

Because when students do science, they’re building literacy, too.
