How good are you at the six things you’re doing right now?

Multitasking feels like accomplishment. You’re moving, the list is shrinking, and something is always getting handled. Your brain can’t hold two of them at once though. It switches between them, fast, and pays a small price every time.

Everything on your list got a piece of you today.

Focusing on what’s important now is how one thing finally gets all of you.

Save this one.

You’ll protect a client’s hour on the calendar without thinking twice. Dinner with your family is the one that moves.

Time is the only resource we can’t get back. Protected time is the only time that matters to the ones that matter most.

Save this if your calendar could use the reminder.

Saying no to a good opportunity is its own kind of hard.

It might not come around again, and it might cost you later. You can know all of that and still say no, because the things already on your list need doing, and adding one more good thing to a full plate has never made the plate bigger.

If it isn’t a priority for you right now, it’s allowed to be a no.

A fast reply feels like proof you’re on top of your life.

What it proves is that anybody with your number gets to set the order of your day.

Your texts and emails will still be there in an hour, and so will the people who sent them.

Whatever happens, happens.

Follow along if your phone has been running your days.

The people I work with can run a department without blinking, and then stand in their own kitchen correcting how somebody loads the dishwasher.

Being the one who handles everything is a habit, and it doesn’t stop at the office door. It follows you home.

Nobody there is asking to be managed.

Save this if micromanaging is a habit you can’t seem to break.

Is there shame or embarrassment in receiving a cancer diagnosis?

When I recently shared that I had undergone a biopsy, I received messages from people I've known for many, many years telling me they'd been through the same thing or similar. Three years, four years, six years, ten years. It was never shared, as far as I know. Even some family members, and I know about the other things in their lives from posts or occasional calls.

We'll talk about the broken leg, the ankle surgery, the knee replacement, the hip replacement, and all kinds of other things we're going through. When it comes to a diagnosis of cancer, it doesn't get shared as much or as often.

Fear, shame, embarrassment or judgement?

"You don't burn out from what you do. You burn out from how you do it."

Everyone thinks the fix for burnout is to do less.

Sometimes it is.

But I've watched high achievers cut their workload and burn out anyway, because they carried the same white-knuckle, no-boundaries, everyone-depends-on-me way of doing it to the smaller list.

It was never the amount. It's the how.

The pressure you carry, the guilt when you rest, the belief that slowing down means falling behind.

"Your busy work is not your life's work."

I spent years confusing being busy with productivity.

Busy felt like progress, so I kept saying yes, kept filling the calendar, kept proving I could do it all.

And I was exhausted and somehow still felt like I was always playing catch-up.

Most of what fills your day is preventing you from focusing on what actually matters to you.

I want to invite you to find one thing on today's list that is busy work pretending to be life's work, and let it go.

Want to see the pattern underneath your busy?
