YORK’S FIRST HOSPITAL. St Joseph Church (established in 1873-1st church built in 1878 in north York). Then moved to Iowa Avenue between 7th & 8th St. A new church was built in 1890 next to the Ursuline Academy (former Methodist Seminary.) This is a plat map from 1899. The hospital was established by the Ursulines in 1890 and continued through the early 1900’s.

Bill Meehan January 23, 1936 March 22, 2020 Bill was born to Dennis and Margaret Meehan in York, NE. A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Bill graduated from St. Josephs Catholic School in York. Afterwards, Bill enlisted in the Navy where he served on the Air Crash Rescue team

St. Joseph School is 130 years old this year. It was founded in 1890. The Church was founded in 1878 with it's first building, although there was a group of Catholics who met in homes from 1873 on.
