Today we wrapped up our four-week pilot of Actors Lab! 🎭💜

A huge thank you to my mom, DZ, or as the girls affectionately called her, “Dizzy!” I loved having her alongside me for this little adventure! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and I am definitely my mother's daughter! ❤️

Over the past four weeks, we worked on character development, short scenes from Steel Magnolias, and improvisation. We even developed one of our improv scenarios, Family Photo, into a hilarious little skit!

I learned a lot during this pilot, especially about how these actresses learn and what helps them shine. One of my biggest takeaways is that they really thrive with improv! When they aren't worried about remembering scripted lines, they can focus on becoming their characters, reacting to one another, and just ACTING!

What was especially fun to watch was how they essentially created their own script through improvisation. With repetition, they remembered what they had said and began delivering the same lines, for the most part. Kate, however, gave us a new variation every single time that had us in stitches! 😂

I've worked with all six of these actresses before, so I was already familiar with their acting abilities. It was wonderful to see growth in each of them over these four weeks. I was especially happy to see them listen to feedback, apply what they learned, and improve with each run-through. And I absolutely loved watching their imaginations at work!

That's exactly what a pilot workshop is for. Trying things, learning what works, and discovering new possibilities!

Looking ahead to next year, I plan to incorporate some improvisation into Gather & Grow, along with offering a few standalone improv workshops with just six participants. I really love what can happen in a small group where everyone has an opportunity to participate, experiment, and grow.

A special thank you to these six wonderful actresses for being willing to try new things, step outside their comfort zones, and be my guinea pigs for this pilot! And thank you to their parents for trusting me with this experience and for always being so supportive. I appreciate you all!

Today, the girls shared their final performances with their parents, and once we've had a chance to edit the videos, we'll be sharing those performances with you!

I'm excited to see where Actors Lab goes from here! 💜🎭

🎄👻 A little sneak peek from my 2026 production of A Christmas Carol! 🎭

I’ve been busy behind the scenes getting ready for the production — gathering costumes, putting together the production packet, writing the script, and creating some new music for the show.

One of my favorite pieces has been writing reimagined lyrics to familiar Christmas carols that help tell Scrooge’s story and will be performed by the Story Carolers.

I already have 14 of 22 spots filled, but there’s still room to join us!

🎤 Channel 5 News was LIVE on location at Mac & Mic Night! 😂

During our Improv Interviews, participants had no idea what they were about to be interviewed about. They had to think on their feet, play along with the scenario, and improvise their answers as our Channel 5 reporter asked the hard-hitting questions. The results were creative, unpredictable, and VERY funny!

🎤🧀 Mac & Mic Night was VERY cheesy! 🤣

We made a mac & cheese bar complete with chili, broccoli, bacon bits and more. We shared ridiculous, make-you-groan jokes...

What does a zombie call a brain freeze?
A frozen dinner! 🧟😂

Then it was time for the MIC! 🎤

Each participant took the stage and was given a topic to talk about for one minute — and parents gave me some pretty good topics beforehand!

Then we jumped into improv with completely ridiculous, made-up interviews. Each participant was interviewed by Lindsay Dover, Channel 5 News, on location. 😂

🎤 “I’m here with Trent, who saw Bigfoot at the Casey’s today. Trent, what was Bigfoot doing in Casey’s?”

“Using the bathroom.”

“Did he buy anything?”

“Coke, a slushie and M&M’s.”

“He put them in his pocket.”

“Pockets?! Bigfoot wears clothes?”

“Yes.”

“Did he pay?”

“Yes.”

“Did you talk to him?”

“Yes, but he ignored me.”

Well, there you have it. Bigfoot at the Casey’s! 🤣

It was such a fun evening, and I’m looking forward to doing it all again on October 16! There are still a few spots left if you want to join us! 💜

It's Time! Ms. Lindsay’s Creative Workshops’ 2026 Holiday Production of A Christmas Carol! 🎄💜

This year’s production features an original Reader’s Theater script written by Ms. Lindsay and adapted from Charles Dickens’s classic novella. The story brings Ebenezer Scrooge, the Cratchit family, the Christmas Spirits, and plenty of holiday magic to life with humor, heart, and warmth — along with five new songs using familiar Christmas carol melodies with all-new lyrics written for the production.

Performers will not be required to memorize lines, and every registered participant will be cast in the production. During registration, performers can also indicate which characters they may be interested in auditioning for.

Production Week: November 29–December 3
Performance: Thursday, December 3 at 7 PM
Location: Millwood Christian Church in Rogers
Registration Fee: $85
Cast Size: 22 spots available- see comments for details

The cast will also help decide how ticket proceeds are used to give back to the community, including the option of sponsoring a child or children for Christmas and shopping together for their gifts.

🎤🧀 MAC & MIC NIGHT 2 — ENCORE! 🧀🎤

Because of the strong interest in our first **Mac & Mic Night**, I decided to add a second night so more participants have a chance to join the fun!

Mac & Mic Night 2
Friday, October 16 | 6:00–8:30 PM
$35 | Ages 17+ | 10 participants

Mac & Mic Night combines cooking, communication, creativity and a whole lot of silliness.

Participants will work together to prepare a Mac & Cheese Bar, Cheesy Garlic Bread and Punchline Punch, helping with everything from cooking pasta and shredding cheese to preparing toppings and getting dinner on the table.

Then we’ll grab the mic! 🎤

Through silly, low-pressure activities, participants will practice some very real communication skills, including speaking clearly, adding details, listening and responding, thinking on their feet, working with a partner and speaking in front of a group.

We’ll tackle Mic Minutes, improvise ridiculous reporter interviews, create and perform silly commercials and finish the night with some wonderfully corny jokes.

Participants should come prepared with 3–5 family-friendly corny jokes of their own. The cheesier, the better. 😄

Today was the first day of the Actors Lab workshop I am piloting! 🎭

I asked six actresses I’ve worked with previously to be my guinea pigs as I try out this new workshop idea. Over four Saturdays, we are focusing on acting and character development using the stage play Steel Magnolias. Each actress has been assigned one of the six women in the play.

Today was our introduction to acting. We talked about what they enjoy about acting, what they find difficult, actresses they admire, the differences between acting for film and acting live on stage, and what it means to really become a character instead of simply delivering lines.

Next week, we begin scene work!

Each actress went home with a little homework—learning more about her character, thinking about how she can make the character her own, and reviewing her first scene. Next Saturday, they’ll even come dressed in something they think their character would wear and bring a prop they think their character would own. (And no, they don't have to memorize all those lines! 😂)

But one of the best parts of this little experiment is that my mother, DZ, is helping me. 💜

My mom is one of my heroes. She’s an actress, an award-winning scriptwriter, and a short-film actress, writer, director and producer. And this particular play has a special connection for us—we performed Steel Magnolias together on stage in 1997! I was 17! She played Truvy, and I played Annelle.

Today, we even pulled out the old recording and watched a few scenes from that production with the actresses. Talk about a full-circle moment!

I’m looking forward to seeing how these six actresses develop their characters over the next few weeks—and seeing where this Actors Lab experiment takes us. 🎭💜
