As many of us recognize, COVID-19 has taken away opportunities, caused issues, but has pushed us into different ways of communicating. In this manner, the IPDA community moved into the virtual format and blossomed even more.
Our debate team at NWACC has been tiny but mighty this year. Like many other teams on the circuit, we were incredibly affected by this pandemic in more ways than one. We have three people who have been consistently competing this year.
The IPDA saw 150 programs and 1018 competitors across the entire country, and our little team of three was named as a Top Ten Season Long Community College (8th Place). In an honorary mention, our coach, Hannah Morris, was named a Top Ten Season Long Professional Competitor (8th place). Included, we brought home a quarterfinalist trophy from the national tournament that occurred this weekend.
This season ends on a different, more hopeful note. And because of this, we leave you all with this quote: “the sky is not my limit... I am.”

It's been a while, friends!
We've been working diligently the past few months to get ready for the National Championship Tournament for the International Public Debate Association that is occurring this weekend, April 9-11.
We had a handful of our students/alumni participating, including Kevin Wilmoth, Misty Sutton, Lea Sutton and Nhan Pham. NWACC Pham competed in the junior varsity division of the IPDA for the very first time and averaged a total of 30 speaker points each round. He was able to secure wins and was told that he was a great speaker as well as had a good handle on the topics.
We will give more updates as we have them! :)
This weekend is the annual Southern Forensics Championship Tournament. We won’t be competing, but our coach, Hannah Morris, will be helping to host and work in the tab room all weekend. She is a representative to the Southern Forensics Championship Board on behalf of Arkansas.
Wish us luck for a smooth-running virtual tournament!
We're hard at work to get ready for our last fall debate tournament, which will be happening "at" Abilene Christian University on December 5-6th.
Let us know if you want to join! We'd love to have more competitors and team members. If interested, please contact [email protected]

Emilie Gibson was an amazing little girl whose fight against DIPG has inspired the International Public Debate Association to help spread awareness and raise money for childhood cancer research. Please consider donating this holiday season to this noble cause.
President/Captain Kevin Wilmoth finishes 3-3 at only his second varsity tournament of the year. A great start to the year for him and we can’t wait to get him into the breaks!
Wish us luck this weekend as we compete at Louisiana State University, Shreveport's Red River Swing. We begin tomorrow at 10 am and will continue on into Sunday.
