This morning during Chapel, students learned more about the story of Exodus and showed their understanding of vocabulary words like “famine” and “crops”. Afterward, they sang “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” a hymn written by Martin Luther just about 500 years ago! The hymn was created as a simple melody to be sung by ordinary worshippers, not trained choirs. It nonetheless has become a choir staple, after Johannes Sebastian Bach—also a Lutheran—created the well-known Cantata 80 from this hymn. Do you recall hearing this hymn?
