🧠 Learning Through Play! 🐾

It may look like just a silly game, but our 3rd graders are giving their brains a workout during one of their "brain breaks" today in Mrs. Johnson's WIN group! 💪

As students go around the circle, adding new words, sounds, and motions while remembering everything that came before, they are practicing an important skill called working memory!

A strong working memory helps students follow multi-step directions, solve multi-step math problems, understand what they read as they hold on to the sounds and then blend them together to read a word, and organize their thoughts when writing.

❤️ Try it at home! Play a memory chain game as a family! Take turns adding a word or motion and see how long you can keep the chain going. It's a fun way to practice remembering and sequencing information while making memories together!

Sometimes the best learning looks a lot like PLAY!

❤️🐾 October is National Principals Month! 🐾❤️

Who better to help us celebrate our amazing principal, Mrs. Keene, than our very own HP Panthers?! 🎤

We recruited some of our students to ask Mrs. Keene a few fun questions to help us get to know the wonderful leader behind Howard Perrin! Their questions and her answers made for a pretty sweet video! 🥰

We are so thankful for the love, dedication, and leadership Mrs. Keene brings to HP each and every day. She has a heart for our students and staff, and we are blessed to have her leading our Panther family!

🏰📚 Stepping Back in Time! 📚🏰

Mrs. Jackson's ELA Classes traveled back to the Middle Ages as they studied the Feudal Society! 🛡️👑

One activity: students focused on serfs and documented important facts about their daily lives, responsibilities, homes, work, and role in feudal society. It was a fun and exciting way to share their thinking and learning!✍️📜

Her classes are building historical knowledge while practicing how to identify important facts, take notes, and document evidence from what they learn! 🔎📖

So proud of our young historians as they learn that history is more than dates—it’s about understanding the people and lives that shaped the past! 🏰✨

Last week, our library classes focused on Library Stations, and it was so much fun to see our students in action! Each station is intentionally designed to build one or more of four important skills: reading, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.

Mrs. Jones is constantly blown away by what our students show her during this time! They are thinking, creating, collaborating, figuring things out, and—most importantly—having fun while learning. ❤️

There’s just something so neat about watching the intentional choices behind these activities bring out the very best in our students! 🌱📖

🫖📚 A Classic Tales Celebration in 3rd Grade! 📚🫖

Ms. Baldwin’s 3rd graders wrapped up their Classic Tales literacy unit with a special tea party and a viewing of Alice in Wonderland! 🎩🐇☕️

Throughout the unit, students worked hard to strengthen some important reading skills:
📖 Answering questions about a text and finding evidence to support their thinking
📖 Identifying and explaining main story elements
📖 Using context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words

We are so proud of the learning and GROWTH these students showed throughout their first literacy unit! 🌱 What a great way to kick off a year of growing as readers, thinkers, and learners!

📚 Readers Are Leaders in Room 108! 📚

Our 2nd graders are working toward their end-of-year oral reading fluency goal of 100 words per minute! Students are building their reading skills by choosing books from our classroom library and getting down to the important work of decoding, fluency, and comprehension.

Each student has a personal book box for their current selections, and they were especially excited to “shop” the new collection of October books! 🎃📖

We’re also making our GROWTH visible! 🌱 Fluency check ins help us monitor progress, and students will track their own reading growth throughout the year using their personal data trackers.

We love seeing our readers take ownership of their learning and celebrate every bit of progress along the way! ❤️📚

Today our entire HP family gathered for our first ROAR Assembly of the year—a special time to celebrate our scholars who are growing in academics and behavior! 🌱❤️
We were excited to recognize our Perrin Pride winners from each classroom! These scholars have earned the most Perrin Pennies by showing what it means to be a ROARing student each day:

⭐ Responsible
We also had a sweet surprise! Two members of our Student Ambassador Team, Sydney and Caryntin, helped us recognize Mrs. Keene and let her know just how much our HP family loves and appreciates her! ❤️

Today we want to celebrate and say a BIG THANK YOU to our amazing custodians—Mrs. Melissa, Mr. Josh, Mr. Trevor, and Mr. Marty!

They work hard every day to keep Howard Perrin clean, safe, and ready for our students and staff. So much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but it makes a HUGE difference in helping make HP a wonderful place to learn, grow, and ROAR! 🐾🌱
