Today, the volleyball team opens their season with a home game. 7th grade and C begin at 4 pm, with the 8th grade to follow. Come and support our student-athletes.

Tomorrow is the KBMS Orientation and Open House! We are combining these events this year, and the evening is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 22nd. Students will receive their schedules, purchase items (PE clothes, yearbook), and have the opportunity to go find each classroom and meet their teachers. This is also a great time for parents to meet the administration and teachers, as well as learning classroom expectations and being able to pay some of the fees such as ASB and Yearbook. This event will begin in the Middle School Gymnasium promptly at 5:00 p.m. for 6th grade, and at 6:00 p.m. for 7th and 8th grade. During this evening, students can sign up to receive a school locker.

We had eight 8th grade students vying for 9th grade ASB officer positions at the high school next year. Candidates gave their speeches today during CAVE. Results of the election will be announced tomorrow (Tuesday) at school.

We held our Spring Sports Recognition Night for baseball, fastpitch and track and field tonight. We had 130 people in attendance tonight. Our boys soccer players held a recognition night last week following their season finale against Sager.

We had our annual Communty Service Day on Friday. This is a day where our different advisory classes give back to the community. We had a variety of service projects going on Friday. The Bandits and the Seminoles combined to raise nearly $600 from a car wash. The money goes to benefit My Friends Place in the Tri-Cities. This is an organization which helps homeless teens. The Frogs raised $270 from a lemonade stand to benefit the Pitbull Pen. The Mocking Jays and All-Stars organized a Field Day for elementary students. Other projects included working at an animal shelter and cleaning the local pathway. We also had advisory classes building benches for students to use and doing some work on our baseball field bleachers. It was a positive and productive day of community service for our Cubs.

Music students from our middle and high schools had the wonderful opportunity yesterday to hold a joint concert in the City Park. The concert was held with students from Columbia Junior High School in the Fife School District. The music students from Fife were touring the Valley and wanted to come and perform with our students. The performance couldn’t happen during the regular school day because of the middle school’s Community Service Day. With that in mind, all of the music teachers involved came up with the concert in the park idea. It was a wonderful way to enter the three-day weekend. A full house heard a delightful concert tonight from fifth grade and middle school students. The middle and high school music programs will be playing in the City Park at 2 pm on Friday, May 26. Ki-Be will be joined by music students from the Fife School District in the concert.
