🍎 Back Together & Getting Ready for a Great Year! 📚

While students are enjoying their final days of summer, some familiar faces are already back in our schools!

Today, Slate Valley’s special educators came together at Castleton Elementary School for a day of professional learning and collaboration as they prepare for the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

There were plenty of smiles, laughter, conversations, and opportunities to reconnect as the team worked together to get ready to welcome students back. We’re grateful for the dedication these educators bring to supporting students across Slate Valley every day. 💚

🌲🥾 Slate Valley Summer Happenings: Exploring Vermont! 🏕️💦

For FHGS and BVS Music Teacher Mrs. Hutchins and her family, summer has been all about getting outdoors and discovering some of the beautiful places Vermont has to offer!

Throughout the summer, the family has made it a mission to explore Vermont State Parks, visiting eight different parks along the way. From swimming and hiking to camping under the stars, they’ve packed plenty of outdoor adventures—and family memories—into their summer.

What a great way to experience our beautiful state! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us, Mrs. Hutchins. 🌲☀️🥾

🍎 Welcome to Slate Valley!

The start of a new school year is getting closer, and today we were excited to welcome some of the newest members of the Slate Valley team for New Teacher Orientation!

The day provided an opportunity for our new educators to learn more about the district, connect with colleagues, ask questions, and get acquainted with the people and resources that will support them throughout the year.

We are thrilled to have these talented new staff members joining our schools and becoming part of the Slate Valley community. Please join us in giving them a warm Slate Valley welcome as they prepare for the year ahead!

☀️ Slate Valley Summer Happenings: Summer Camp Edition! 🏕️🎨💦

While school was out for the summer, a familiar group of Slate Valley faculty and staff traded their classrooms for six weeks of adventure as members of the Castleton Recreation Adventure Camp team!

Each week, the camp welcomed 60–70 children in grades K–6 for days filled with fun, exploration, and plenty of opportunities to make summer memories. Campers visited a fish hatchery, played indoor mini golf, enjoyed Captain Aquatica, tried their hand at baking, made campfire s’mores, went swimming, and participated in a variety of arts, crafts, and water games.

What a fun way for so many members of our Slate Valley team to spend their summer—continuing to support local children while making sure their summer vacation was packed with adventure! ☀️🏊‍♀️⛳🎨

Thank you to the entire Castleton Recreation Adventure Camp staff for sharing a glimpse of your summer with us!

Slate Valley families can pick up FREE multi-day meal boxes for children 18 and under this summer!
Each box includes:
🍎 7 breakfasts
🥪 7 lunches
📍 Pickup Location: Fair Haven Grade School parking lot
🗓️ Pickup Day: Every Tuesday during the summer
⏰ Time: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
📅 Last Pickup: Tuesday, August 18
Eligibility Requirements:
✔️ Meals are for children 18 and under
✔️ The child is not receiving meals from another Free Summer Meal Program
✔️ The person picking up the meal box is the child’s parent or guardian
Help us spread the word so every child in our community has access to nutritious meals throughout the summer! 💚

🎨✨ A Little Gallery with a BIG Purpose is Officially Open! ✨🎨

Creativity was on full display in Fair Haven Park today as our Slate Valley art teachers celebrated the official opening of the Slate Valley Community Mini Art Gallery!

The morning included an official ribbon cutting, followed by plenty of creativity as children, families, and community members gathered from 10:00 a.m. to noon to create their own miniature works of art. Those first creations quickly began filling the gallery shelves, starting a colorful collection for our community to view, share, and enjoy! 🖌️🖼️

Inspired by the Little Free Library concept, the Mini Art Gallery invites everyone to participate: leave a small piece of original art and take a piece that inspires you. The hope is that the collection will continue to change and grow as more people add their creativity to the gallery.

A special thank you to Slate Valley art teachers Darcie Parrot, Alyssa McMahon, and Marcella Ray-Mullikan for bringing this wonderful idea to life, and to Mr. Stanton’s Project Build middle school students for building the gallery.

🎨✨ Tomorrow’s the Day—Come Celebrate Creativity in Fair Haven! ✨🎨

Join us tomorrow, Thursday, August 13, for the grand opening of the Slate Valley Community Mini Art Gallery at Fair Haven Park!

Inspired by the Little Free Library concept, this tiny gallery has a creative twist: leave a piece of art and take a piece of art! Create a small original piece to share, browse the artwork left by others, and if you find something you love, leave one of your own creations and take it home.

📍 North Entrance of Fair Haven Park
