Are you signed up for Baton Class yet?!? Low cost, low commitment- but BIG FUN! No experience required. Come try out the fall session.
Our baton twirling class combines a mix of learning baton skills and tricks with footwork and dance. This is a great class for children who love music, dancing and performing. Class is open to children ages 3 years old through 8th grade.
Session: Baton is broken into two sessions over the course of the year. Session one runs October 18th through Thanksgiving. We spend session one learning baton skills and dance steps. Session two runs January through the recital date which occurs around the end of March to beginning of April. The second session works on learning two routines choreographed to music that will be performed at the annual recitals.
The entire year runs 16 classes total, 6 classes in session one and 10 classes in session two. Children must participate in both sessions in order to be in the recitals. Session two dates will be released once MAUHS allows us to schedule our recital dates.
Attire: Children should attend class in tight fitting clothing that allows for movement. Leotards, leggings, or athletic shorts all work well. Hair should be pulled up and children can wear ballet shoes or go barefoot.
Baton: Each child needs to use a metal rod, rubber tipped baton. A baton costs around $40 and can be purchased directly through the studio. The baton comes with a set of protective caps for the ends and should last a child 2-3 years before they outgrow it.
Costumes: Each child needs a costume that they wear for the parades, picture day, dress rehearsal and the recitals. The costume usually costs between $50-60.
Fundraiser: We hold an optional cash calendar fundraiser in the fall to help parents cover the cost of the costume and the cost of the second session of classes. 100% of what your child raises goes directly towards their fees.
Parades: We typically participate in the Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Battle Day parades. These are optional for children to participate in.
Recitals: All children participate in two recitals held in March/April. The recitals are held at the MAUHS auditorium on a Sunday. Each child performs two routines at each show.
Private Facebook Group: We have a private facebook group designated solely for baton parents. This group is where we post schedules, cancellations, fundraisers, recital info, etc.
