MAUMS families. I wanted to take a minute to clarify the Nurse's section of the newsletter shared today. The 4Bs section was in no way meant to be an all inclusive list of reasons students would be allowed to visit the nurse or have the nurse come check on them. We recognize a multitude of needs can arrise and at no point would a student be denied access to a nurse if needed. The 4Bs was meant to serve as more of a general guide for the classrooms. I apologize for the lack of clarity in the newsletter.

As we wrap up our Summer Experiences Program tomorrow, we'd like to give a big thank you to our staff who worked, our families who allowed their students to participate, and our students who showed up, bought in, and took strides to be better prepared for the next school year. Also a thank you to our maintenance staff working to get the school ready for the fall while keeping it up and going for Summer Experiences. A huge thank you to Whiston's Culinary Group for providing breakfast and lunch for our students.

This was not your grandparents summer school. Summer experiences gave students opportunities to work outside the confines of just their normal subjects. They made trail maps, created business plans, and designed mini-golf holes combining skills across multiple subjects. Literacy camp students read a book about the pitfalls of the overuse of cellphones and digital technology. Students connected with each other and staff through social emotional lessons. Great job to all involved and enjoy your breaks. We will see some of you back at MAUMS next month!

Dear MAUMS Students and Families,

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. It is with great pleasure and humility that I will be stepping into the role as principal. Since taking over July 1, I have had the opportunity to get to know the building, staff, and teachers. Now I am looking forward to getting to know you and our students.

After spending 23 years in North Carolina as an educator, 21 of which were spent in the classroom at the middle-school level, I am excited to be joining the Bennington and MAU communities and working with all of our stakeholders to make MAUMS the best version of itself. A school will grow and improve if our community works together.

I encourage you to be actively involved as much as you can with your student’s academic and social development.Whether joining our PTSA, attending school events, or simply helping your student with homework, any support you can provide helps our community work toward its common goal. We at the school level will continue to strive and grow all students academically and socially as well so they can reach their full potential.

It is my hope that I can be a resource for you and your students and that we can work together to strengthen our school community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to discuss any topic. I cannot promise that we can always make every change you may wish for, but I can offer you a voice that allows us to address your concerns or problems.

With only a few weeks left, celebrating the end of school has officially begun!

A few of our classrooms enjoyed the nice weather with a WILD end of year celebration. The classes had a HOPPING good time with the petting zoo from McKay's Family Farm. Thank you to everyone who made this possible! The party was definitely unFURgettable!

Happy Patriot Challenge Day!
Today was a great day of teamwork, school spirit, and (especially) FUN!

Thank you so much to the staff who helped organize the event, the volunteers who ran the different activities, and the STUDENTS who made today great!
