While everyone’s attention has been fixed on the screwworm this little guy has been moving our direction fairly rapidly. It appears to be three counties away at the moment. Keep a close eye on your Bermuda grass fields. This is a bad bug.

Sharing the most current map of Pasture Mealybug in Texas. While not officially confirmed in Johnson County, AgriLife entomologists suspect it is present due to confirmed cases in neighboring counties.

Pasture Mealybug Notes:
- affects most common pasture grasses including bermudagrass
- injects its saliva into leaves that weakens plant
- causes secondary infections or "pasture dieback" conditions
- is spread mainly by movement of animals/equipment/people between pastures
- research is being done to find reliable management tactics for infected pastures and get labeled products available to producers

COPPER BREAKS was a success with lots of outdoor activities and about 80 kids!!!! We hiked, fished, canoed, ate fabulous hamburgers, learned about being a Game Warden, learned about quail habitats, Gateway Water Trailer and played games.

Special thanks to the parents who stayed, the Rolling Plains Groundwater for assisting, Knox and Baylor Counties Game Wardens, Quail Forever Organization, The Gateway Water Trailer, Eddie Blackburn for helping at the canoes, and the Baylor, Foard, Hardeman and Knox County Extension Agents for all your help!!! And especially to Copper Breaks State Park for allowing us to use the Park for a fun day!
