Chris started as a LEFA student back in 2006, spent eight years flying utility and fire contracts in Alaska, and came back to Bend to lead the helicopter program. His path is a reminder that commitment creates opportunity!

We don't train students to pass a checkride. We train them to be ready for what comes after.

Stage checks, structured ground lessons, simulator sessions, and real-world mountain operations; it all adds up to pilots who show up on day one of their careers prepared for the expectations of professional aviation. That's why operators across the industry know what they're getting with a LEFA graduate.

Did you know? Helicopters can fly forward, backward, laterally, and straight up. ⬆️

That versatility is exactly why they're essential for missions fixed-wing aircraft can't touch, including rooftop landings, confined area rescues, and precision external load work.

All that maneuverability comes with complexity, though. Learning to coordinate the cyclic, collective, and anti-torque pedals at the same time is one of the first challenges every helicopter student faces, and one of the most rewarding to get right. 😎

"The education I received at Leading Edge and COCC prepared me in all aspects of flying, air traffic control environments, to rural off-airport operations in the Cascade Mountain range. Flying in the mountains of Oregon prepared me perfectly to be an air ambulance pilot and a bush pilot in Alaska." —Will Lawrence, Air Methods Corporation

Stories like this are why we do what we do.

Meet the R44; the helicopter that bridges foundational training and advanced operations. 🚁

The Robinson R44 is a four-seat airframe with a two-bladed rotor system, hydraulic controls, and an aerodynamic fuselage built for stability and range. We use it for instrument, mountain, long line, and NVG training courses, the advanced work that prepares pilots for what comes after flight school!

Here's a number worth paying attention to: The Boeing Company projects 649,000 new commercial pilots will be needed worldwide over the next 20 years. 127,000 of those in North America alone!

The demand for trained, career-ready aviators keeps growing. If you've been thinking about a career in aviation, the timing speaks for itself.
