It was a great night of grappling here in Bend, Oregon for the team tournament…

Being able to compete again was a lot of fun, for me at the age of 46, and being able to test myself not once but twice in one night against arguably the best Jiu-Jitsu player in the Pacific Northwest was incredible, but more importantly, I got to compete with my students as teammates in the team format. Tye McCarthy, Joey Campbell and Christian Graves not only showed up, but they each showed me (and everyone in attendance) something with their competitive spirits that I hadn’t seen before. These guys really did great. It was an honor competing along side them.

It was also special to compete along side my daughter, who did an exhibition folkstyle wrestling match in the same event.

We were able to make it past the semifinals after going through the formidable 10th Planet Portland team, and we almost got the win for 1st, going deep into overtime in the finals with the defending champions- Clark’s University team.

The odds were stacked against us, but we almost pulled it off. Huge congrats to everyone who competed.

The energy was great from the crowd and everyone involved was respectful, supportive and enthusiastic.

We are very grateful for all of our students and friends who showed up to support.

Can’t wait for the next one!☝️

The best gym in central Oregon just got a little bit better.

A big thank you to everyone who showed up and put in work and helped make this happen. We now have brand new mats in the front room as well!
It’s 90% done now, and the last part will be finished in March.

we had a great open mat today, and those who stuck around till the end were witness to some very deserving belt promotions.

Any time someone gets a black belt, it’s a big deal.

today, Juan Rasmussen got his black belt. I’ve not seen many people as solid and dedicated as Juan has been throughout the years. He’s been here from the very beginning and it’s been a pleasure watching him go from a dedicated student of mine, to a full-time teacher with his own school.

Everyone else got one step closer to the same goal today. And if you know Jiu-Jitsu the way we do, then you know that Black Belt is not the end of the road: it’s really only the beginning. It’s a new pathway to being better than you were before and holding yourself accountable for being excellent.

Congrats to the 24 people who showed up to the open mat today, and to the 5 people who leveled up!

Huge congratulations to our fighter, Jacob Villegas, who took a fight coming off a loss in his first go, against an opponent with much more experience, and he passed the test with flying colors, cause that’s what we do…

It’s nice to see hard work pay off. It’s even better when the person is a good, honorable human being, like a Jacob is.

We are finally starting to grow a strong little stable of fighters here finally, in Central Oregon.

Huge congratulations to for earning his long overdue purple belt today. Joey represents everything a teacher could ask for; hard work, dedication, talent, willingness to learn, willingness to compete, and positive enthusiasm.

He’s found a home at Danzig MMA and has used it as a springboard to progress a ton in the past year.

And of course, huge congratulations to William for being the first student in the history of Danzig MMA to log over 2 thousand hours of training. 🏆. He even got his own trophy for this, but it looks invisible in the picture cause it’s made of glass 🤷🏼‍♂️

Also, congratulations to Zeke and Jacob again, for not only fighting their asses off last weekend, but for coming in and getting back to training right after they fought. 💛

And congrats to everyone who showed up today and trained, cause you did 100% more than anyone who didn’t show up today 😉
