We have a very special student spotlight this week!
Seven-year-old Amira’s heart beats to a weaker rhythm than other children, but her mind races at a mile a minute. Diagnosed with heart failure, Amira’s days in the hospital become a blur of heavy fatigue and constant noise of machines that is keeping her alive while she waits for a heart transplant. Her body demands rest, but her mind and spirit demands books. Amira has always had a love for learning. She currently is enthralled in the book series The Adventures of Sophie the Mouse. Eager to challenge her mind, she is ready to tackle higher arithmetic and looks forward to continuing her piano lessons. She constantly investigates the world around her, happily using pH test strips to collect scientific data on absolutely anything and everything she can find. When initially told she would not be able to attend the hospital’s dedicated classroom, Amira simply transformed her room into one. With her stuffed animals lined up as students and an IV pole quietly standing beside her like a loyal assistant, she sits with her pencil in hand ready to learn.
Now approaching 90 days in the hospital, Amira’s health has stabilized enough that she can finally visit the real classroom. Armed with a bright perspective that she is attending a sunny summer camp in the middle of spring, she doesn’t let her equipment slow her down. Whether she is kicking a ball with a friend, playing a round of mini-golf right in her room, or joyfully racing down the hospital halls, she does it all with a smile on while scooting her berlin heart machine and IV pole rolling right beside her.
You are amazing, Amira ♡♡♡

Levi Wright is an 8th grader with OFS. He has been a student with us since our inception. Some things Levi loves about OFS are community day, P.E. with Mr. Bridges, and the flexibility of our model.
The flexibility at OFS has allowed Levi to lean into his musical education and dedicate a great amount of time to creating music. After years of piano lessons, Levi joined Bend School of Rock in October and picked up the bass guitar. He was immediately promoted into the performance program, and after his first show, was invited to join the School of Rock "House Band", the advanced performance group.
As a member of "House Band" Levi is a leader, representing School of Rock at community events and gigs. Right now Levi and his band are preparing to perform at Summerfest in Milwaukee this June! Without the flexible structure of Oregon Family School, Levi would not have the time to go grow so quickly as a musician or be able to attend mid-week gigs for School of Rock.

🚗💥 Student Spotlight: Finn 💥🚗
Finn, a 2nd grader at Oregon Family School, is turning his passion for RC cars into something truly impressive! Using his understanding of how these vehicles work, Finn loves customizing his own builds—swapping out parts and even fabricating his own to bring his ideas to life.
Recently, Finn had the chance to meet his YouTube heroes, the Peck Brothers, and was inspired to recreate one of their modified jeeps—just like the one you see in this photo!
