Obsidian Education

Obsidian Education We offer holistic education classes for children ages 3-15 in Bend, Oregon. Fortunately, this type of education is becoming outdated.

At Obsidian Education, we prepare children for a life of purpose, joy, and gratitude through holistic, customized, student-centered learning. We provide activities and experiences that foster children’s connection to themselves, their local and global community, and to the earth. Our holistic philosophy addresses the gaps that are prevalent in traditional education models. The current model of edu

cation in the United States places heavy emphasis on teaching to a child’s mind, often ignoring the body and spirit. The pressure put on schools and teachers to prove that children are “successful” at school translates into test-driven, one-size-fits-all learning experiences. Children are being prepared to be good at receiving a grade, being an employee, and fitting into a mold. There is a paradigm shift happening, as families and educators are seeking more, thinking outside the box to design programs that honor the development of the whole child – mind, body, and spirit – and recognizing that the purpose of education should be to cultivate a sense of wonder and love of learning that extends not only beyond the classroom but the entire life of each child. Obsidian Education seeks to be at the forefront of this paradigm shift. Our encouraging and imaginative environment allows each child’s interests to unfold and be nurtured in a way that inspires them to become lovers of learning, life, the planet, and themselves. Our curriculum inspires children to be stewards of our planet and empowers them to be their best selves. Our greatest joy is to witness the face of a child filled with awe, wonder, and peace. Join us and be a part of the education revolution!

We’re beyond excited to officially announce our new name, Roots Art & Nature School! This change reflects our merger with ArtDog, an amazing organization I’ve been partnering with for the past two years to provide mindful art classes. We’re thrilled to move forward together as Roots Art & Nature to provide programming that inspires creativity, a connection to the natural world and joyful living. Check out our new website to learn more about our kindergarten and first grade classes, homeschool program and camps! **Give a follow as we will be phasing out of this account shortly** 🌈

The original intent of Kindergarten (“garden of children”) was to provide a space where children’s natural curiosity and desire to learn could be nurtured and developed. This was done through music, nature study, stories, and play. With this environment plus an attentive gardener, it was thought that children could blossom and bloom.

So why are most Kindergartens today such a grind? Placing academic pressures on five and six-year-olds that they are developmentally unsuited to tackle has life-long implications. Yes, they may learn how to read and subtract sooner, but at what cost?

Let’s bring Kindergarten back to its roots. 😉🌿Join us for our reservation-only open house on July 25th and 26th to learn how our Kindergarten program can serve your child. Contact us today to learn more and reserve your space.☀️

At Roots, your child will be supported in taking a playful approach to creating that celebrates discovery and places little emphasis on the final product.

Our integration of process art through the Roots Curriculum allows for deep learning of the content - learning that sticks with them past the end of the day, unit, and even school year.

The result? Your Roots Child will express themselves freely and think creatively, independent, and imaginatively, traits vital to their long-term success and well-being.

We always include time for free play at Mindful Kids Night Out. Why? Play is one of the key ways in which children learn! It’s self-guided so there is intrinsic motivation, it gives children to opportunity to experiment, and the concepts they learn are more likely to be retained when they’re acquired in an enjoyable manner.✨
Mindful Kids Night Out returns THIS FRIDAY at Tula Movement Arts. Drop off the kids for two hours of mindfulness, movement, and play intentionally designed to speak to their bodies, minds, and spirits. Visit Tula's website to save your child's spot.🤸‍♀️🧘‍♀️💕
