In honor of what would have been his 90th birthday (May 7th), we are excited to share MBSEF’s tribute to the one and only Frank Cammack. Frank’s vision, skill and commitment to ALL his athletes laid a strong foundation for what MBSEF is today. Please join us in remembering and thanking Frank!

The Freeride competition team had two different Futures tour events this past month, one at Sugar bowl Resort in Tahoe and the other at Park City Mountain resort in Utah. These events were mainly attended by our traveling snowboard athletes. The Sugar Bowl event was challenging with very little practice due to weather conditions, but the athletes persevered and put down some good runs. We had some great results in Park City. Henry Linn came in 12th and Wyatt McCabe came in 15th out of 56 men. Conditions were variable going from hard ice to super slush but everyone did great and put down their best runs. Happy to see smiles from the trip.

ALPINE UPDATE! A number of our athletes traveled to the Schweitzer NWC in late February. We had a lovely couple days of Northern Idaho sun with sweeping views and great visibility before the weather blew in. Anna Brueggeman finished 4th place in the GS and Calder Tarnow took 11th in the SL, plus many other top 30 finishes from our athletes.
Finnley Curtis traveled to Sun Valley for an out-of-region event, securing 1st place in the Laura Flood Memorial Race GS with a crash landing through the finish line.
In early March our FIS team traveled to Targhee in Wyoming with Coach Kent and Coach Alice. The trip provided two of the sunniest blue bird days and amazing races and results for our FIS team! Marie Stapleton scored her first FIS points, and we had racers in the top 30 and 15 (almost) every day! Good job to Walter, Beckett, Eli, Marie, and Edie!
After many cancelations, MBSEF was thrilled to finally be able to hold an Alpine event at Mt. Bachelor this season. We hosted a U14 Qualifier the 2nd weekend in March, and our older athletes enjoyed forerunning the super G's on the beloved Cliffhanger track.
Seven of our athletes made the cut for regional at Palisades in Tahoe that took place just last week. While the experience was tough and results were (for the most part) not favorable, the trip was a memorable one and we are so proud of their work to get there.
Just this week, Coach Keenan departed with 7 of our U14s who all qualified for U14 Champs at Sugar Bowl in Tahoe.
The team has been back on Ed’s off of Outback pretty consistently for training the last few weeks and athletes continue to show up and make the best of each session. We look forward to NWC Finals next month and continue to push for progress through the rest of the season!

The Skimo Season Recap!
The Skimo season got off to a dry start this year, as it did for everyone. But, we took advantage of good dirt to start getting some elevation and fitness in at the start of the season and ended up on snow shortly after the first week. The lack of snow caused most races to be cancelled, but despite that we had a fun season with good skiing. We were able to get in two races at Mt Shasta Skipark and Mt Ashland this year.
This season, athletes worked on faster transitions, building fitness, and technical uphill skills. I think I can speak for the 9 youth skiers that it was a great season, we had a lot of fun, and we learned a lot. We're already looking forward to some good spring skiing and next season being able to travel to a few more races.
This is an exciting time for Skimo, given its addition to the Olympics and the sport's huge growth in the USA. We want to continue to build the Skimo program at MBSEF so check it out and let us know if you have questions about it.

Special visitor alert! Last weekend Olympian and MBSEF Alumn graciously spent some time with hundreds of our Alpine and Freeride athletes. Hunter helped give out end of season awards to our Mini World Cuppers, helped kick off our Devo Freeride comp, and signed countless helmets and accessories. What a gift and an inspiration! Thank you Hunter!
