For a long time, I thought teaching history to young children meant choosing between two options:

📚 Read alouds
⏳ Or waiting until they were older.

And while I love a good read aloud, I kept feeling like there had to be something in between.

A place where children could begin exploring history before they were ready for deeper analysis.

A place where they could meet important people, events, and ideas in a way that made sense for their age.

Not to memorize everything.
Not to master everything.
But to begin building familiarity, recognition, and connection.

Because one day, when they encounter those ideas again, they won’t be hearing them for the first time.

They’ll be building on a foundation that’s already there.

That’s the vision behind Little Lion History. 🤍

Today we remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

And we send extra love and prayers to the families who still carry that sacrifice every single day. ❤️ 🤍 💙

To our military members, veterans, and military families, thank you.

If you’re military, a veteran, or part of a military family, comment “Military” and I’ll send over our military discount code as a small thank you for your service and sacrifice.

We put the current U.S. with 50 states into a time machine, set the date to 1773… and it came out as the 13 colonies 😅

This is one of my favorite ways to introduce history in the early years because kids can physically SEE that the world looked different before.

Noticing change over time is one of the very first building blocks of historical thinking.

And honestly? Turning history into something they can touch, move, and play with changes everything 💛

It’s time to open our Little Lion time capsules from the beginning of the year 🦁

I was expecting the string to show a lot more growth 😅 I know they grew because suddenly none of their pants fit anymore.

Next year I think I’m going to do painted handprints instead of tracing them because I know those little hands changed more than the paper shows.

We also answered little questions at the beginning of the year about favorite foods, toys, colors, and things they loved doing. That might have been my favorite part to look back on because some answers stayed the same… and some completely changed.

Part of history is learning to notice change over time and this ended up being such a simple but meaningful way to see all the little ways they’ve grown this year.
