Yes, yes, yes!!! 👇👇🏾👇🏻
So simple and so powerful. Take the headache out of the “you need to share” and “sharing is caring”.
I wouldn’t come into your house and expect you to share your favorite candle just because ‘caring is sharing’. Or say ‘you need to share’ about the novel you are currently absorbed in.
Forced sharing only happens in childhood. And of course one can argue “we need to teach them to think of others” or “sharing teaches compassion”.
But, in reality, it teaches young children they don’t have any autonomy over their own things and how they choose to spend their own time engaged with those things.
Instead we can model sharing in an appropriate way by saying, “oh my gosh! This book is soooooo good. I’ll let you borrow it when I am done.”
We can support turn taking in the classroom... “Sheila would like a turn when you are done. Can you find her when you are done and give the horse to her?”
When someone takes a REALLLLLLLY long turn. That’s ok too. We can support the waiting child with, “waiting can be hard. What would you like to do while you wait?”
For the children that like to have turns every day of the whole week with the same thing, how can you support them in their need for power and control that doesn’t include control over other people or items? Maybe they need to feel important. Is there a big job you can have them help with to help give to them a sense of control and power?
Let me know what works for you in the comments!

Today was the last day for our M/W cohort - this mighty group of 4 (one kiddo not pictured) taught me so much about saying “yes.” They loved all things kitty, and they were consistently kind, imaginative, and amusing. I will miss them oh so much. 💔 But they will all continue to shine in kindergarten and in life. 🌟

Today a preschooler shared that a sea lion is “kinda like a dog mermaid” and I’ve never heard anything more accurate than this. 🐶 🧜♀️
