Today’s farm trip was about so much more than picking produce. 🌻🍓🥔

Before our visit, the kids talked with their families about what they needed or wanted from the farm and came prepared with their own little produce orders. Once we arrived, they became the shoppers.

They searched the fields for the items on their lists, picked strawberries, dug potatoes straight from the earth, carried their own bags, kept track of what they were bringing home, and made choices along the way.

It looks like a morning of strawberries, dirt and sunshine—but there is so much learning tucked inside. ❤️

🍓 Responsibility — remembering what their family asked them to bring home
🥔 Early math — counting quantities and thinking about money and budgets
🌱 Food literacy — seeing where food actually comes from and how it grows
🛍️ Independence — carrying their own bags, finding items and making decisions
💬 Communication — asking questions and interacting with the people who grow our food
🤝 Community connection — participating in a real place that helps feed local families
💪 Confidence — discovering that even our littlest people can do meaningful, helpful work

And, of course, there’s the very important job of quality control: eating a strawberry (or several) right there in the field. 🍓

This is what learning looks like at Base Camp—real experiences, real responsibilities, dirty hands, full bellies, and some very proud little grocery shoppers heading home with produce for their families.

Some kids need a nap mat. Some kids need a hammock in the pines. 🌲

Around here, rest time looks a little different. Fresh air, swinging feet, sunshine through the trees, and apparently MAXimum relaxation achieved. 💛

Childhood belongs outside.

Just your average preschool commute. 😂🚲

Helmets on. Bikes in hand. Tiny humans moving through the world like they have places to BE.

There are easier ways to get a group of little kids from point A to point B…but “easy” isn’t really the point.

Every ride is practice in independence, responsibility, road safety, perseverance, problem solving and keeping track of yourself as part of a group.

They may be little, but we don’t underestimate what they’re capable of. 🌲🚲
