Most clients come in thinking they have sensitive skin.
Almost none of them do.
What I see in the treatment room today more than I did 5 years ago:
Barrier Destabilization.
It looks like sensitivity.
It feels like sensitivity.
It reacts like sensitivity.
It isn't.
True sensitive skin is structural. You're born with it. A thinner outer layer. A nervous system that fires easily.
It only affects about 1 to 2% of people.
What I see every single day is something different.
Something that has developed over time.
Before I recommend anything, I ask what products they're using. How often they're exfoliating. What actives they're stacking.
Nine times out of ten, I already know what's happening before they finish answering.
The intake is where the real work starts.
Not the treatment. Not the product.
The questions that come before either one.
If your skin is reacting and no one has asked you these questions, that's where to start.

Unpopular Belief....
Sensitive skin is a misdiagnosis. Most of the time.
Reactive skin and a destabilized barrier look exactly the same on the surface but they respond to completely different things.
This is the conversation your last esthetician probably didn't have with you.

Seven questions.
This is what all client intakes should ask but often don't.
What are you using now?
How often are you exfoliating?
What actives are you stacking?
When was your last treatment?
What's changed in your life recently?
How are you sleeping?
What's your stress level right now?
Most consultations skip these.
But your skin doesn't exist in isolation.
It exists inside everything happening around it.
The intake is where clinical outcomes are built.
The questions that come before either one.
If you haven't been asked them, you haven't had a full picture yet.
That's where to start.

Jen spent 2025 doing something most of us resist.
She pared down.
Not to minimize but to choose deliberately. High-impact products only. Things that earn a place in a routine that already has to do a lot.
Quench made her list.
Not because of a trend. Not because of a campaign. Because she sat with us through a conversation about formulation, about why certain oils work when others don’t, why fatty acid composition matters more than texture claims, and why the barrier isn’t a surface to treat but a system to support.
And then her skin answered differently.
It’s a different kind of endorsement. Not just a quick initial reaction, but a result that arrived slowly, made sense over time, and came from someone who understood the formulation before she felt the difference.
Ximenynic acid, the active in Quench, doesn’t sit on the skin. It works with the lipid architecture already there, supporting microcirculation, improving the conditions for barrier repair at a level most formulas never reach.
Jen called it a hormone-conscious staple. We’d call it a formulation that respects the intelligence of the skin it’s working with.
Thank you for your discernment, your honesty, and for making space for conversations that go deeper than the trend cycle.

Your skin wasn't failing you. It was responding to something real.
Those are not the same thing.
Failing means broken. Responding means your system read something in your body and your life and reacted accordingly.
To a hormonal shift. An inflammatory load it couldn't clear. A treatment history that never gave it time to integrate.
The skin was doing its job. We just didn't have the right question to understand what it was saying.
This is where Kelly and I started. Not with a new product. With a new question.
What is this skin responding to?
That question changed everything.

Most people treat a skin change like an emergency.
New cleanser. New active. “Barrier” everything.
Then laser. Then supplements. Then starting over.
That’s motion. Not progress.
Because the real question isn’t “what did you put on your face?”
It’s “what did your life put on you.”
Right before your skin changed.
Stress that quietly doubled.
Sleep that stopped restoring you.
A cycle that got weird.
A medication. A move. A breakup. A new job.
Training harder. Eating differently.
Grieving something you didn’t name.
Your skin isn’t acting up. It’s reporting.

Something shifted. You can't point to one day. You just know that what used to work doesn't anymore.
Same products. Same routine. Same good habits. And still breakouts in new places. Dryness by noon. Texture that appeared out of nowhere. Reactivity to things your skin handled for years.
That's not a product problem. That's your system trying to tell you something.
I lived in that place for a long time before anyone helped me name what was actually happening. What changed around me before my skin changed.
Not what I was applying. What I was living.
If that resonates, comment DRIVER below. We made something that helps you find the first place to look.

Today has a way of finding the tender places.
For some of you it's full and loud and beautiful. For others it's quieter. For some it's complicated in ways that don't fit inside a greeting card.
We're not sending the glossy version today.
Mother's Day isn't one feeling. It's a whole room of them.
We want to honor the women who got it right. The ones who made home feel safe. Who apologized. Who repaired. Who kept learning.
And the ones who are still learning, who look back and know they didn't always get it right, and who choose every day to do better. That is its own kind of love.
We also want to name what most messages won't that some of you are celebrating a wound today. That some of you built your own table.
We also want to honor the women who mother without the title. The ones who show up, pour in, hold space, and love in ways that don't always get named today but matter just as much.
Whatever version of this day you're living, we see you.
We are holding space for all of it.
With so much love,
Samantha + Kelly
