Martin's Mill FFA

Doing to Learn is happening at the Mill last couple of very busy days. Mineola floral cup was a total win for Kamila she got her banner she has been hunting for. Over the moon doesn't even begin to describe how happy and giddy she was on the ride home. Haley and Junior had beautiful pieces as well. These three were an absolute blast that day ... I don't remember the last time I have giggled so much on a road trip.

So thankful for the opportunity every year to being our kids out and have them visit with businesses and learn more about the agricultural industry as a whole.

Sept 30th our officer hosted an afterschool event for our 3rd thru 12th grade students. We started off with AgRobotics and then they could pick the agricultural path that they wanted to explore more from Animal Science, Floral and events, ag mechanics and agrobotics the officer had an activity for each group and then we finished with a game. So thankful for the parents and community that support our program and help us provide these opportunities.... Next meeting for 3rd thru 12th grade FFA members will.be November 3rd.

We took a small break from all the fairs and in Vet Med we practiced a practical skill for anyone who has animals that would possibility need a skill in a "pinch". We are working on sutures and the different types that work in different situations. Sometimes we have to "do to learn"

Well the wheels at the Mill are definitely running and let me tell you the miles and memories are definitely worth it. State Fair in Dallas has brought the 🔥 and a few of our kiddos earned the brand. Out of the gate was the Market Lambs and boy did they rock the house. Cade was 1st in his class, Reserve Heavy Weight Medium wool and Reserve Market Lamb.... Senior year wish list ✨️... Carson was not far behind with his Market lamb 5th in class. Then is was all about the gilts Jace showed in showmanship, Pan American and the youth show. His Berkshire was 5th and 6th and his Yorkshire was 3rd... he is off to a strong start for the year. Also showing at their very first show with their very first gilts was Lexie and Mollie... they said definitely not their last...they are pumped for the next round of gilts. Then we were back with the Market Goats -- Cash has been a Rockstar all season with his goat and for his first Texas Major he brought home the brand as well by placing 6th. Last but not least Jace finished up this round at the state fair with his Dark OPB barrow... way to lead the way.

So very proud of all of these kiddos and thankful for the support system that they have in the stands at every show cheering for them. Beyond blessed is what we are for our livestock community that shoes up at every event.

The last week and a half, our ag mechanics class have been refurbishing a bridge that was between 2 pcs playground equipment on our “old” playground. Students learned to come up with a plan, material list, measure/square, and choose the right tools to complete the job. Cool to see students using skills they learn to put back into the school district. Good job guys!
