Here, in a Village of traditional svenska stugor (Swedish cottages) resembling a small fishing village, you will be surrounded by the sights, sounds and of Sweden. Here, in a Village of traditional svenska stugor (Swedish cottages) resembling a small fishing village, you will be surrounded by the sights, sounds, flavors and customs of Scandinavia’s most populous nation. Learn the language and the culture of the country that has not fought a war in 200 years, serves up scrumptious foods and is the home of popular music (ABBA), cars (Saab) and furniture (Ikea). Experienced and native speakers will help you live the language of one of the world’s most prosperous and progressive countries, one that just happens to have also been the ancestral home of thousands of Minnesotans.

Sometimes, a song learned at Sjölunden becomes a memory worth sharing🎶

This old Swedish folk melody has about 10 verses—and Ulf, one of our villagers, memorized every single one! He sang just one verse for this video, and then he took the stage at the Talent Showcase and sang the entire song. Talk about committing to the performance!👏

The studentmössa is an important Swedish tradition, worn to celebrate the completion of upper-secondary education and mark an exciting new chapter. At Sjölunden, we put our own spin on the tradition by using the studentmössa as a celebration at the end of each summer, recognizing the friendships, memories, and language learning that villagers have shared throughout their time at Sjölunden💙
