New Staff Spotlight: Jennifer Bruun, Autism Consultant
What’s one goal you’re excited about in your new role with BRIC?
Professional Growth. I am excited to learn more, work alongside skilled colleagues and benefit from what they know, build strong relationships at BRIC and in nearby schools, and deepen my understanding of Autism by finding ways to best support students who will be placed on my caseload.
Do you have a favorite quote, motto, or mantra that guides your work?
Christian Nestell Boyee: “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see."

What do you love most about working with students?
Understanding their perspective. Building relationships with students, helping them feel accepted and at ease with my presence so they are open to sharing their thoughts, ideas, and humor. In my years working with K-3 students, I’ve heard the most amusing and hilarious comments come from students who love to share more than is being asked of them.
Whats one fun fact about you that might surprise your coworkers?
I was born in Bemidji, but grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. When I turned 5, my family relocated to Anchorage so my father could start his own company. We returned to Bemidji when I was 14, at the end of my last year of middle school. I intended to move back once I graduated high school, but I met my husband at BHS and created a family. I plan to bring my children to Anchorage one day soon, so they can be exposed to the Alaskan environment and history.
