This Friday, May 1st, we are celebrating School Lunch Hero Day! We want to recognize school nutrition professionals and the difference they make every day!
Between preparing healthy meals for students, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true heroes.
School Lunch Hero Day provides the perfect opportunity to recognize the hard working professionals in our school cafeterias.
Please reach out to the food service staff in your school(s) with a kind gesture or words of appreciation as they all are a vital part of our team.

Just remember all ISD 31 staff are a "hero" every day in our schools and the students are watching and learning from us.

Hope you all have a fabulous end to your week and you can get out and enjoy the sunshine this weekend!!

“Taste the World” together this October 13–17, 2025

Get ready to travel the world for a week of delicious adventures with our taste buds! Who’s excited to travel the world to try some tasty meals during National School Lunch Week?

National School Lunch Act
In 1946, President Harry Truman established the NSLP after an investigation found that poor nutrition in childhood was linked to the poor health of men rejected for World War II. The act provided federal funding for school lunches, which were previously available in some schools but not everywhere.

National School Lunch Week
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy created NSLW to promote the importance of healthy school lunches and their impact on children. NSLW is celebrated during the second full week of October and includes special menus, activities, and events. The goal is to increase student participation and spread the message that schools serve healthy lunches.

The NSLP has grown and adapted over the years to meet the needs of schools and states. Today, the NSLP serves nearly 30 million children every school day.

The Great Apple Crunch - October 9, 2025 It's Apple Crunch Time!

Join us for the annual Great Apple Crunch to celebrate Farm to School Month, support local Minnesota farmers, and promote resilient communities!!
October is National Apple Month and National Farm to School Month. That’s why here in Minnesota we celebrate the Great Lakes Apple Crunch. The Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch encourages healthy eating and supports farm to school and other local food purchasing initiatives throughout the region. It’s also a fun way to connect food and agriculture to classroom curriculum – from science to art and more!
The Apple Crunch is a way to get students and individuals excited about delicious local produce, help students understand where their food comes from, and support local farmers. Across the state, students taste-test different apple varieties, take field trips to local farms, and participate in other apple-themed learning activities.

Ask your child what they learned today and if they like their apples?
