The original 1976 “Bad News Bears” was an absolute classic SPORTS MOVIE! Probably not how we would teach our kids to stick up for each other in 2023, but Tanner sticking up for Lupus left an impression on hundreds of thousands of boys back then about how you stick up for friends and teammates. And I’m sorry, but the message still resonates. And I STILL love TANNER! .athlete

From ESPN: 2-time Olympic gold medalist and track superstar Sydney McLaughlin watching youth track and encouraging younger runners. Classy AND CLASSIC!

This is VERY reflective of when I played. Was JUST talking to a softball player I’ve been working with about manifesting THIS attitude when she plays college softball. And that if she can, how much HER coach will appreciate her if she does!

CLASSIC! But very true! Coaching is HARD! Playing is HARD! When I was a HC, didn’t always get it, but the ONE thing we always wanted/hoped for from our fans was for them to help build, not tear down . . .

Was talking to a soccer family in Dallas yesterday. Primarily talking to mom. At one point, I asked if they had called any coaches. The simple act of leaving a voicemail. Wasn't surprised when she said "No, not yet." Also wasn't surprised when she indicated that part was a little scary. What's the game here? Early on, you're simply trying to GET on coaches radars. Did you know the one thing very few kids do? Even though they can get easy access to phone numbers, they don't initiate CALLS to college coaches! It may be a little scary, but a well-placed call can go a LONG way towards achieving that one goal - of getting yourself ON college coaches radars! If you CALL them and don't get them, leave a short voicemail. They'll probably be calling you back. If you CALL them and get them (depending on your year in HS), important to keep the conversation VERY short as ALL you're doing here is getting the ball rolling. Simply indicate your high interest in their school, tell them you'll be texting or emailing your contact info and then politely end the call unless they suddenly WANT to talk further. Either way, they WILL remember you and you will have accomplished your goal of getting noticed. And if you would like a template of HOW to do this, message me or set up a consulting session. But what a great way to stand out!

November 9th was the day athletes all over the US signed their National Letters of Intent to play their various sports all over the place. Maybe you know a young athlete who experienced this. There are still upcoming 2022 signing dates (http://www.nationalletter.org/signingDates/index.html). Coaches are STILL looking for players next year. Recruiting is still going on. Most athletes will now sign financial aid agreements, which are basically the same thing. The point is, if you are a freshman, sophomore, or junior, and you've just watched all these senior athletes signing to play - please understand, in MOST cases this doesn't just happen. MANY of them LEARNED early on what to do! Being a good athlete is PART of it. Being a good student is PART of it. But it is SO important to LEARN what to do while EARLY in the process! This could be YOU when it's your turn!

For as long as I can remember, to play your sport in college, you HAD to be academically qualified by the NCAA Eligibility Center. And that hasn't changed. But in order to be qualified, it has always been two things: 1) your HS "core course" grades and 2) a qualifying standardized test (the SAT and ACT). I've NEVER been a fan of so much weight being placed on a test you take during a few hours of ONE day. Well, COVID obviously impacted SAT/ACT test taking. So for a couple of years (2021-22 and 22-23), the NCAA waived it as a requirement. And during that time (my opinion) nothing was "lost". Well, one of the things the NCAA has been looking at in fall meetings has been dropping the SAT/ACT requirement permanently. I, for one, am hoping this comes to pass!
