Our Zebras Are Exploring the Exploratorium!

Our Zebras are our youngest class to visit the Exploratorium, and today they put their creativity to work!

Using a variety of loose parts—including buttons, caps, animals, knights, and more—the children worked together to create their very own castle. Once their creation was complete, the learning continued through pretend play as they brought their castle, animals, and knights to life!

Loose-parts play gives our youngest learners the freedom to create, problem-solve, use their imaginations, and discover that there is no limit to what everyday materials can become!

Our Gorillas got creative with nature today!

Using playdough and twigs, our Gorillas explored their creativity and engineering skills by designing and building their very own car sculptures! They then took their learning a step further by using twigs to form letters!

This hands-on experience encouraged problem-solving, fine motor development, letter recognition, and creativity as our little learners discovered new ways to build and create with natural materials!

Our Dolphins Took Their Learning Outside!

Today, our Dolphins Class went on a field study to explore the parts of a tree!

They began by reading a book together about the different parts of a tree and learning about the roots, trunk, branches, bark, and leaves. Then, they headed outside to explore a real tree up close and connect what they learned in the book to what they could see, touch, and observe!

Field studies give our children the opportunity to take their classroom learning into the real world, encouraging curiosity, observation, and hands-on discovery as part of our In the Trees Inquiry!

How Many Pinecones Can Fit in a Container?

Today, our Elephants answered a Curious Question: How many pinecones can fit inside different-sized containers?

The children explored using one small container and one large container, filling each one with pinecones and counting as they went. They discovered that the small container could hold 14 pinecones, while the large container could hold 32 pinecones!

This hands-on investigation gave our Elephants the opportunity to explore counting, size, comparison, and problem-solving while using natural materials from our In the Trees Inquiry!

Our Pandas Class enjoyed the weather and went on an exciting leaf hunt! They had a blast finding colorful fall leaves and examined them closely with magnifying glasses! Nature is truly amazing! 🍁✨

Our Lions Class headed outside for a quick field study around the school to investigate animals that live in trees!

While we didn’t see any animals living in the trees today, our little scientists used their listening ears and heard several birds nearby! They even spotted a few birds hanging out on the telephone wire!

Field studies are such a fun way to take our learning beyond the classroom and give our children the opportunity to observe, explore, ask questions, and make discoveries in the world around them!
