December 2025 –

Dear Friends of Anatowind –

You'll be receiving updated information soon on the clinic process as it develops locally, nationally, and globally.

As mentioned in the doctoral dissertation completed and published on the clinic teaching process

“It has helped the author to find, through her own physiology, that aesthetic tone that matched her God-given aesthetic idea.”

Your thoughts are always appreciated

Happy holidays,

Everyone –

The information below explains what will be happening next month as related to the Johnny Watts story.

This is a process that I developed over the past four years and would not have been accomplished without the involvement of over 100 people in the Beloit community that helped me with this endeavor. They became inspired as they learned

more about the story of this remarkable young man as I did.

To Friends of Anatowind –

The picture that you see below is one of the most iconic in the clinic's history.

This year we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the doctoral dissertation completed on the clinic teaching process through the Catholic University of America in Washington DC.

This picture helps connect the past to the future as we also approach in a few years the 100th anniversary of the clinic teaching process from concept to research to qualification to where the process is today

The clinic teaching process, as defined by the registration through the US Patent and Trademark Office in 1961 reads –

Teaching proper muscular coordination in the playing of musical instruments through personal demonstrations, clinics, reports, etc.

Soon you will receive an update on how the clinic process is being developed locally, nationally, and globally.

Any thought processes please let me know

BACKGROUND:

In October of 2021, the Anatowind Music Clinic Director, James Simmons, had a chance encounter at the McDonald’s restaurant on Madison Road in Beloit, Wisconsin with an 8th grade basketball team. As an alumni from Beloit Memorial, he began speaking with these young men about the athletic program at their
school.

Early in the discussion, Simmons realized that their knowledge of the historical nature of their sport was lacking. As they continued, it dawned on him that with more understanding about past teams and players who had excelled in their sport, it might encourage them as they began their high school careers.

As time went on, Simmons realized that he himself needed more knowledge about the excellence in athletics that had occurred and it began with one player, Johnny Watts.

Simmons realized that he had never shared any information with his teenage neighbor. He decided to share what he learned with Andre Neal who held the scoring record for basketball at Beloit Memorial High School. In that discussion he realized that he had work to do and was missing information and knowledge of the historical facts of the program.

This realization led to four years of research, conversations and a belief that he should make a proposal to the Beloit Board of Education that involved the history of Johnny Watts as an outstanding athlete at Memorial who had never been recognized for his stellar contributions to athletics statewide. The idea that took hold was to recognize Watts by naming the basketball court inside the Barkin(Bernie) Arena. Nothing proceeded in this development until he secured the permission and involvement of the family of Johnny Watts, many of who still reside in Beloit and the Milwaukee area.

After many family meetings, community meetings and presentations to civic organizations, the proposal was made In January 2025 to the Beloit Board of Education. They had the courage and foresight to see that this bold move could be
an incentive for students and a long overdue recognition for an accomplished athlete and unanimously supported going forward.

On May 29, 2025 a meeting was held with members of the current basketball team at Memorial to provide an overview of the program. Simmons also met again with those young men he had originally spoken with at the McDonald’s to share how that conversation sparked a movement and they were a part of it. He
hopes to involve them in the planning and get ideas from them on how they can contribute.

“Nuff Said” is the rallying cry for this endeavor because it represents what Johnny’s classmates in the class of 1934, in trying to describe who he was added that to his school yearbook picture.

Someday this phrase may be uttered by every graduate of Beloit Memorial as they walk across the stage with pride and accept their diploma.

And people will come to understand that this story doesn’t end here and has not only local but national implications….

Nuff Said
Thank you,
James Simmons, Director
