🌱 Growing With the Garden: Emmanuel’s Story 🌱

When Emmanuel looks back on his childhood, the Merrill Community Sharing Garden isn’t just something he remembers—it’s something he grew up with.

From climbing dirt piles as a kid to serving his community through AmeriCorps, the garden helped shape Emmanuel’s path, his passion for conservation, and his vision for a more sustainable future. What started as a neighborhood green space became a place of connection, learning, and purpose.

Emmanuel’s journey reminds us what’s possible when communities invest in people—and when young people are given opportunities to grow alongside their neighborhoods.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, join us for an inspiring talk with Karla Cuautle. A proud first-generation college student and UW-Rock alum. Everyone is welcome to attend (student, staff, members of the community).

Karla is a Beloit resident who has turned her passion into purpose through community advocacy, cultural pride, and real-world impact. With a background in banking, lending, accounting, and now as a State Farm insurance agent, she dedicates her career to educating and advising clients, especially those in underserved communities on financial wellness.

She is also the President of Excelencia Hispana, a nonprofit focused on driving economic prosperity, expanding rights, and providing accessible resources to the Hispanic community. Karla serves as a council member for League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council #338, an ambassador for the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce, and a Climate Ambassador for ecoAmerica.

Her work spans climate awareness, animal rights, and local volunteerism. Karla has always focused on uplifting students, families, and those in need.
