The National Honor Society is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, October 28th from 8am-1:45pm in the high school. Any community member wanting to donate can schedule using the link below or call the high school and ask for Mr. Baker. Anyone donating blood will need to check in at the main office before their appointment and register.

West Branch has a long record of managing taxpayer dollars carefully.

Through strong financial management, the district paid off its 30-year construction bonds ahead of schedule in 2024. At the same time, the required 0.5-mill maintenance levy expired, reducing residents’ school tax rate to its lowest level since the construction project began.

The district has also focused on funding major facility and program improvements through grants and donations at no cost to taxpayers. Additionally, eight teaching positions have been reduced through attrition over five years to match enrollment. Energy conservation upgrades under Ohio HB 264 are also cutting utility costs districtwide.

What’s a Permanent Improvement Levy? Why does West Branch need one?

If you have thought of these questions or others, please attend our informational Town Hall Meeting taking place this Thursday at West Branch Middle School at 6:00 PM.

Superintendent Matt Manley will answer questions and share more details about the upcoming PI Levy that will be on the ballot this November.

If the levy passes and the state abolishes property taxes, what happens to the maintenance fund?

Recent changes to Ohio law place limits on how much school property tax revenue can grow without voter approval; however, they do not directly alter levy rates, terms, or voter-approved amounts.

Additionally, state leaders are discussing potential future changes to the property tax system, though no decisions have been finalized. Because state policy discussions are still evolving, it is too early to know whether future legislative changes could affect the levy. However, it is important to note that we are not alone in this, as other school districts and their levies could also be affected by this legislation.

West Branch Local Schools will continue to closely monitor state legislation and will keep our community informed of the impact of any future changes.

This meeting is an opportunity to meet with Superintendent Matt Manley and discuss the upcoming PI levy that will be on the ballot in November.

In 2000, West Branch voters invested in our schools by approving a bond issue to build and renovate district facilities. Like all buildings, our schools need major systems replaced as they age. Safety systems come first. The district cannot address every need within the five-year life of the proposed PI levy, so these projects will be completed in order of priority.

On October 3rd, members of the West Branch Environmental Club headed out into our community to make a difference! Our students spent the day cleaning up Johnson Road and 15th Street, collecting litter and helping keep our community clean and beautiful.

A huge THANK YOU to our Environmental Club members for showing what it means to be a Warrior who cares about our community.
