The SDB 4th Grade Beginning Band and Orchestra “Test Drive” is well underway. The event is being held at BMHS in the Field-house; 4-7pm. 4th grade students may try out some or all of the instruments to find the best fit. The instruction is being provided by current members of the high school band and orchestra.

Music majors having the highest acceptance rates (around 66%) — “because music training develops critical skills like discipline, teamwork, empathy, attention to detail, and persistent practice, which are highly valued in medicine and transferable to medical practice,” Harvard researchers say ❤️
While majoring in music isn't a guarantee — and requires careful planning to meet science prerequisites — the unique skills learned make musicians strong, well-rounded candidates that medical schools actively seek 👍🏾
Legendary Wisconsin Band Director Mike Leckrone anecdotally said musicians often end up as the heads of academic departments at the UW, too — ALL departments — because playing an instrument taught them crucial skills in leadership and hard work 💪🏾
