Far-Flung Study Abroad - Two Semesters, Two Languages, Two Hemispheres 07/28/2025

Josie Czuj ’25 knew that she wanted to study abroad during her time at Beloit. In fact, a large part of why she chose Beloit in the first place was “for the study abroad programs, and I knew I wanted to do one semester Spanish speaking, one semester French speaking.”

Disrupting the binary in medieval lit 04/04/2025

Derosier, who is a professor of French and chair of Medieval Studies, centers his research and teaching on “unlearning the Middle Ages” and the negative stereotypes that inform the way we engage with the world around us. “There are no more stars”: Transgressing Tradition in Film - The Round Table 02/26/2025

Albertine Cinémathèque opens tonight!

“‘Banel e Adama’ (2023) is a haunting image of the tensions between love and tradition. Banel, a driven young woman from northern Senegal, seeks to escape the expectations of her village with her love, Adama, by digging out and moving into houses buried under the sand just outside. Adama is about to become chief of his village– if he accepts his lineage. In this gripping and calamitous story, Ramata-Toulaye Sy, Senegalaise-French screenwriter and director, breaks not only the romance mold but also stereotypes of Black African women in love stories. With stunning visuals, colors, and powerful audio, ‘Banel e Adama’ is a film that revolutionizes storytelling and our own expectations of traditional film. Screening begins at 7:15 this Wednesday, February 26, in the Weissberg Auditorium in the Powerhouse.”
