I would love to introduce one of our Lead Nature Mentors, Catty Dennis. She comes all the way from Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she spent the past three years working as a preschool teacher at Kazoo School (a nature-based preschool). The school is adjacent to the Kleinstruck Preserve, and every day, rain (or snow!) or shine, they explored and played in this 48-acre haven as they learned about its plants and animals and how to be stewards of the land.

Catty is one of our Lead Teachers for the Nature Explorers Program that we offer at Stulsaft Park in Redwood City. Stulsaft Park is a 42-acre park located in the hills of Redwood City, California. It is recognized as the city's largest park and features wooded trails, a creek, a playground and picnic areas. The Nature Explorers Program is designed for children ages 2.5 to 5. The class meets 2x a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 to 1pm. Registration NOW OPEN through the City of Redwood City Parks and Rec. Many parents ask me what the benefits are of enrolling their child in a nature-based program. There are so many benefits to Forest School. In addition to what is named here, I would also include that it builds a sense of resiliency in kids. The photo here was taken last Friday at our Stulsaft Park location. We just wrapped up our Spring Break Camp and on the last day it started to rain. Kids came prepared with rain jackets and rain boots and had a great day out exploring in Nature, rain and all. Most of us would not think to spend a day out in the rain, so it is actually a rare experience to be able to spend the day out exploring in nature in a downpour. A whole new world opens up when it is raining. Worms come to the surface, mud puddles form, the ground gets soft and squishy. The rain magnifies the sensory experience, turning a simple day outside into a magical one.
