Good evening, Gaston Virtual Academy Secondary families!

This is Rebecca Wilson, Principal of the Secondary Campus for grades 6–12, with an update for this week.

The Live Instructional Session for Biology for this Thursday ONLY will be at 2pm, not at 9:30am. Again, the Live Instructional Session for Biology has been moved to 2pm for this Thursday ONLY.

Tomorrow, the students who have parent permission to watch the Safer Schools video provided by the state will have the video assigned to them on their homeroom Canvas page.

As a reminder, students who are taking English 10 this semester must come on campus this Friday at 9am. Parents will drop off at the same entrance used at our Orientation. Students will need to have their ride at 10:45am.

English 10 students! You have a District Assessment this Friday, August 28. Students who are taking English 10 this semester must be on campus at 9am. Make sure you bring your Chromebook fully charged and are ready to do your best! Now that we are on a school campus, please adhere to the dress code and technology guidelines.
-Not having personal technology on, visible, or in use. This includes, but is not limited to phones, headphones, AirPods, smartwatches, tablets, and smart glasses.
-All hats, hoods, or any other non-religious head coverings must be down or off of the student’s head.
-Dress for school. This means all parts are covered.

Good evening, Gaston Virtual Academy Secondary families!

This is Rebecca Wilson, Principal of the Secondary Campus for grades 6–12, with the weekly update for the first week of school.

Thank you for attending orientation. We had the best turnout ever in the history of GVA. Thank you!

We've had a very smooth opening and students are already engaged in their coursework. We have had two hiccups that I would like to address. Students enrolled in courses through Edgenuity need to make sure they are only working on the course that is for Semester 1. In the title of the course, before the school year date, you will see either S1, which is Semester 1, or S2, which is the course for the second semester. ONLY work on the course that is for Semester 1. Also, take a break from Edgenuity and start on Monday, August 17!

The second hiccup is with our CTE courses. As mentioned at Orientation, we are in the middle of a transition with our CTE teacher. If your student is taking Intro to Computer Science, Marketing, Sports Marketing, Keyboarding, or Intro to Office Productivity, please be patient. You will not see these courses published in Canvas yet. The earliest you will see them published is the beginning of September. I will update you closer to that time.

This is Rebecca Wilson, Principal of the Secondary Campus for grades 6–12, with clarification for Orientation tomorrow.

You will follow the directions to where you will be dropping students off when they come on campus. There is parking by that entrance behind the parked buses. You will enter and exit the entrance that has the blue arrow on the map. If you have any old technology that belongs to Gaston County Schools, please bring it to Orientation. It would also be a good idea for students to bring a bookbag to orientation, as we have many items to give them.

We are asking for parents to also attend orientation, as parents are crucial to the success of virtual students. As a reminder, GVA Secondary students with last names A-K will attend from 4:30 - 6:30. GVA Secondary students with last names L - Z will attend from 6:30 - 8:30. Both orientations will be at Stuart Cramer High School.

GVA will respect how busy the first day of school is for in-person schools, and I am asking for GVA families to NOT come to Stuart Cramer on Wednesday, August 12. All devices must be picked up on August 11 during orientation. Students who do not attend orientation will be counted absent on August 12. Students who do not attend orientation will be able to pick up their device at Stuart Cramer starting August 13 between the hours of 9am and 3pm. Please report to the front office.

Student and Parent Orientation dates are set. This year, we ask that all GVA students and parents attend orientation for the full session to learn important updates for the new school year. The Orientation flier is attached. Orientation will be Tuesday, August 11 in the late afternoon/evening. GVA Secondary students with last names A-K will attend from 4:30 - 6:30. GVA Secondary students with last names L - Z will attend from 6:30 - 8:30. Both orientations will be at Stuart Cramer High School.

Good evening. My name is Dawn Lavinder, principal of McAdenville Elementary and GVA @ McAdenville. I am very excited to welcome you to McAdenville Elementary! By joining McAdenville Elementary, GVA students are able to access the great aspects of virtual learning that they love while also being able to access opportunities offered by traditional schools.



GVA @ McAdenville provides synchronous learning for students in grades K-5. This type of learning requires students to be logged in each school day to meet with the virtual teachers from 7:45am- 2:35pm. Teachers will provide daily schedules so students and parents are aware of when they need to be logged on.



By joining McAdenville Elementary, a traditional K-5 school in Gaston County Schools, we are excited to offer additional opportunities to students and their families. As part of GVA @ McAdenville, students will participate in itinerant classes such as art, music, and PE. In addition, families will be invited to participate in our in person family events such as spirit nights at local restaurants, curriculum nights, and even our Christmas Town events in December. Parents are also encouraged to join our Parent/ Teacher Organization (MES PTO).



We will be offering a Meet the Teacher event on August 10th in conjunction with our Meet the Teacher evening for our in person students. At 5:00pm, our GVA teachers will be meeting with all parents of students who are new to the program including our kindergarten students. At 5:30, we will be welcoming all other GVA parents for a meet and greet. During this time, we will be distributing student materials and Chromebooks. Please bring a back pack with you.



As the principal of McAdenville Elementary and GVA @ McAdenville, I am excited to get to know each student and their families. I am available to answer any questions you have or to support you in any way I can. I look forward to working with you during the 2026-2027 school year!
