If you are a priest, seminarian, religious Brother or Sister, you should know about two summer programs just for you! Ab Initio for beginners (July 12-18) and Veterum Sapientia (26July to 1Aug) for intermediate-level speakers and up. Details on both programs at www.veterumsapientia.com.
As of this writing both programs are still scheduled for normal operations. Updates, if any, will appear both on the website and here.

Matthew 6: 9-13
Pater noster qui in caelis es sanctificetur nomen tuum [10] adveniat regnum tuum fiat voluntas tua sicut in caelo et in terra [11] panem nostrum supersubstantialem da nobis hodie [12] et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris [13] et ne inducas nos in temptationem sed libera nos a malo.

Our Father who are in heaven, may your name be sanctified. May your kingdom come. May your will be done just as in heaven also on earth. The purpose of this group is to learn to read and enjoy Church Latin: biblical, liturgical and theological. This is not a platform for debate and members will be expected to treat one another with kindness and respect. Insults and profanity will not be tolerated.

If you post a passage in Latin it would be helpful if you would include a translation, your own or someone else's. Please also include a citation of the work the passage was taken from.

Questions about grammar, vocabulary and syntax are welcome. All levels of expertise from beginners to veterans are invited! :)

I can't imagine a more honorable way to launch this page's content than by posting a link to Dr. Mark J. Clark's fine 2009 piece tracing the recent history of Latin in the Roman Church. Welcome to Learning Church Latin! This page has been created in response to requests published on other pages, especially the "Learning Latin" page. While the creator of this page is firmly of the opinion that Latin is Latin -- whatever its time-frame or application -- it still appears there is a significant constituency of people out there whose interest is specific to liturgical use, Church history and related subjects, to whom this page may be of interest and benefit. If that describes you -- welcome to the page!
In everything posted here, let us ALWAYS use charity and courtesy toward one another. More specific guidelines will be forthcoming if necessary, though one can always hope they won't be. .
