Bellwood-Antis School District Transportation Update

August 30, 2026

Dear Bellwood-Antis Families,

As we continue to work through transportation adjustments during the opening weeks of the school year, we would like to provide an update regarding several bus route changes that affect a number of our students. Some of these changes will be ongoing adjustments to improve efficiency, while others are temporary and related to a local paving project.

Permanent Route Adjustments

In partnership with Raystown Transit Service, transportation routes have been reviewed and modified to better serve students in several areas of the district.

Bus 12

Students in the following areas will now be assigned to Bus 12:

Kerbaugh Road
Becker Road

This change applies to both elementary and middle/high school students. Morning pickup times will be slightly earlier than they were during the first three days of school. Afternoon drop-off times will remain close to those experienced during the opening days of the school year.

Bus 10

Students residing on Antis Road will continue to ride Bus 10. Morning pickup times will be a few minutes earlier than during the first three days of school, while afternoon drop-off times will remain very similar.

Students in the Pinecroft and Bellemeade areas will also continue to ride Bus 10. These students should expect slightly earlier morning pickup times and afternoon drop-offs that may occur up to 10 minutes earlier than during the first three days of school.

Raystown Transit Service appreciates the patience, flexibility, and cooperation of our families as route adjustments are made to improve service and efficiency.

Temporary Change for Monday, August 31

Antis Township has informed us that paving work is scheduled to take place in the Lower Johnson Development on Monday, August 31. This project will temporarily affect Bus 11's afternoon route only.

To ensure student safety and maintain transportation service, families in the Lower Johnson Development should plan to meet the bus at the Tipton Baptist Church parking lot on Monday afternoon.

We appreciate the cooperation of Tipton Baptist Church and the daycare center for allowing the use of their parking lot during this temporary disruption.

This adjustment is expected to be for Monday only. At this time, we anticipate normal bus service to resume once the paving project is completed and road access is restored.

Families with specific questions regarding transportation schedules or bus stop locations are encouraged to contact Raystown Transit Service office.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work with Raystown Transit Service and local officials to provide safe and efficient transportation for all of our students.

If you drive - parking in the lot is permitted. First come, first served in the un-numbered spaces. We have BASD employees assigned to all numbered spots. DO NOT PARK IN NUMBERED SPOTS.

Laptops will be distributed to all HS students tomorrow.

Slight update to our cellphone expectations for 2026-27. The policy itself has not changed, the method of enforcement and consistency across all classrooms will be the difference.

Greetings!!! In two weeks (Wednesday, August 26th) our students will be returning to school for the first day of the 2026-27 school year. We are excited for their return and look forward to a great year.

GACTC students WILL report to Greater Altoona CTC on the first day of school - AM BUS departs the bus port area at 7:40am.

Prior to the first day of school, we will host a Freshman and New Student Orientation for the HS on Monday (8/24) at 6pm in the Auditorium. Open house for all grade levels (9-12) will then occur from 7-8:30pm.

PHEAA & PIAA Unite to Award 24 Scholarships to PIAA Student-Athletes

MECHANICSBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. (PIAA), in partnership with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), is proud to announce the selection of the inaugural 2026 PHEAA/PIAA All-Academic Athletic Team.

This new initiative recognizes outstanding senior student-athletes from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who have demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics, and leadership within their schools and communities. One male and one female student-athlete from each of the 12 PIAA Districts have been selected, totaling 24 honorees statewide.

Each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship to support their post-secondary education, along with commemorative recognition items. The program reflects a shared commitment by PIAA and PHEAA to celebrate well-rounded student-athlete achievement and to support future educational pursuits.

“This inaugural class of student-athletes represents the very best of what interscholastic athletics can offer,” said Mark Byers, Executive Director of PIAA. “Their dedication in the classroom, their commitment to their teams, and their leadership within their communities exemplify the true meaning of being a student-athlete. We are honored to celebrate their accomplishments through this partnership with PHEAA.”

“This scholarship program is a great way to ensure students are aware that PHEAA is here to help them find an affordable path to higher education,” said James Steeley, PHEAA President & CEO. “At the same time, it allows us to give these exceptional young athletes the recognition they deserve for excelling in both academics and athletics. The amount of organization, dedication, and perseverance required to achieve that is outstanding.”

Nominated by their school administration, selection to the All-Academic Athletic Team is based on a rigorous set of criteria, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.60, preferred participation in multiple interscholastic sports, and demonstrated leadership in both their school and community.

“The PIAA is committed to developing student-athletes who succeed beyond the competition surface,” said Frank Majikes, President of PIAA. “This program and these student-athletes exemplify the value of discipline, integrity, and perseverance. This recognition honors not only their accomplishments, but also the example they set for others in their District and across the Commonwealth. We are proud to recognize and support their continued success.”

“We’re proud to award the first ever PHEAA/PIAA All-Academic Athletic Team Scholarships,” said Senator Wayne Fontana, Chairman of the PHEAA Board of Directors. “We established this scholarship award in conjunction with the PIAA to promote and encourage postsecondary education while also recognizing and honoring the hard work and dedication of our most accomplished multi-sport student-athletes.”
