Stove Prairie is part of the Poudre School District in a beautiful mountain setting at the top of Rist Canyon. History
Stove Prairie School opened its doors in 1896 and is the oldest operating “one-room” school in Colorado. The significantly expanded school, 20 miles west of Fort Collins on historic Stove Prairie Road, features occasional herds of elk in the surrounding meadows. Learning culture
Stove Prairie offers the intimate atmosphere of a traditional, old-time schoolhouse, complete with combined grades which are taught in three separate classrooms: K–1, 2-3, 4-5, balanced by the support of an established school district. Our multi-age classrooms support differentiated instruction while delivering PSD’s outstanding standards-based curriculum. Preschool is available on site for children ages 3-4 up to three days per week. Academic environment
We believe effective communication between school, home, and community is vital and that partnerships with parents are essential. We offer a challenging math program and learning opportunities focusing on literacy instruction, including a rigorous reading series with a literature-based component and integration of reading and writing. Classroom laptops and a beautiful media center complement all instructional areas. Art, music, physical education, and counseling are taught weekly. Opportunities for parents
Parents are an integral part of our success. Our highly supportive PTO meets monthly and hosts the annual Winter Festival, a 30-year tradition. PTO-generated funds provide students with field trips, library books, classroom instructional needs, and playground equipment. Due to parking concerns, the PSD Board of Education Listening Session for tomorrow, October 6th, has been moved to the Livermore Community Hall, 2044 W County Road 74E, Livermore, CO 80536. The listening session will be from 6-7:30.

HUGE SHOUT OUT to our AMAZING PTO for running the most successful Festival on record!!! You guys ROCK!!! All the proceeds from the festival will help to pay for students to attend ECO Week, as well as fund field trips, books, supplies, holiday parties and so much more!!! We'd also like to thank the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department for supporting the festival as well as the School of Rock Band that performed for many hours....you guys ROCKED IT!!! We truly have the best community around!!! Thank you for all you do!!!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Fall Festival to support our Mountain School...it was a huge success and we had a lot of alumni visit too! And speaking of alumni, this is Mike Applegate, he went to school here from 4th grade to 8th grade, graduating 8th grade in 1966! He then went on to CLPMS, PHS and then CSU (where he got a degree in Engineering), so he has been a member of our community for many years! His mom, Mary Applegate, was the secretary here back then and she helped organize the Stove Prairie Community Cookbook, as well as being part of the Mother's Club that put together a Stove Prairie Scrapbook. She was beloved in the community, and when she passed away, they dedicated this bench to her. The plaque is very hard to see, but it reads, "In loving memory of Mary Applegate, our good friend". I love when alumni come to visit and share a piece of history with us...I've been here almost 10 years and did not even know there was a plaque on this bench, it is so hard to see. We'll have to see what we can do to remedy that :) Thank you for supporting Stove Prairie at the festival Mike, and thank you for sharing your story

C'mon out to our Fall Festival happening right now!!! So many great items to pick up for family gifts for the holidays, or for yourself to enjoy now :) We have food trucks, craft booths with super talented artisans, a carnival for the kids live music and soooo much more! Hey Everyone...Stove Prairie is celebrating 130 years and we are ready to kick off an amazing Fall Festival, so come on out and join the fun! We'll have food carts, talented craft vendors, a silent auction, fabulous live music courtesy of the Gordon Creek Band, and so much more!!! The fall colors will be poppin', so come on out and support this historical school!!!
