UPDATE RONALD STEIGERS STROKE
April 29 2024
Next week will be about 2 months since my stroke. I am still not allowed on the phone because they want my brain to continue to rest and heal. Drs have changed some of my meds and I have improvement.
I have also started physical and occupational therapy. I am no longer sleeping 20 hours a day I’m down to about 12. My walking and dizziness are both improving but other than Dr apts haven’t been out of the house. I have lost about a total of 40lbs but my appetite is now returning.
Please send prayers, share and contribute if you would like.

Hello! If you're on this gofundme page, it's because you know our dear friend, Ron Steiger. Whether in person or through one of his many Facebook groups or selfless endeavors, you've likely heard about or seen Ron going out of his way to make everyone's day brighter. We've all seen him delivering girl scout cookies for Valentine's Day, dressing up as Santa Claus and and other holiday characters to cheer people up, delivering gifts to sick/needy children, dropping off soup to a sick friend... You name it, he's done it! You know he is THE guy, the guy who is ALWAYS there to help everyone. Unfortunately, now Ron needs YOUR help. We are starting a gofundme because due to some recent health setbacks, Ron is expected to be out of work for 4‐6 months.
If you haven't heard, over the last few weeks Ron was rushed to the hospital on 3 separate occasions. The first time it was determined that he had a stroke from AFib which caused his left side to be paralyzed. This kept him in the ICU for 5 days. A few days later he was rushed back to the hospital because he thought he was having another stroke. Instead, it was determined that it was a TIA (transient ischemic attack- a brief blockage of blood to the brain) and he was released 4 days later. On his third emergency trip to the hospital last week, doctors determined that he had a hemiplegic migraine.

Ron is now home and his doctors have put him on full bedrest and advised him not to drive. He cannot work and has been told to limit any screen time he is exposed to so he can rest his body and mind.

In the last few weeks he has seen the cardiologist, neurologist, stroke neurologist, his GP, with a gastro, pulmonary doctor, and a neuro optometrist. Even after all of the appointments he's had already, doctors are still puzzled. He has very little balance, is dizzy, nauseated, suffering from very bad head aches, can’t eat, has lost weight and is sleeping for most of the day/night.

Due to Ron's extended absence from work, please consider making a donation to help him get through the next few months as he recovers.

Update April 12
Over the last few weeks Ronald was rushed to the hospital 3 different times. The first time Ronald had a stroke from Afib and his left side was paralyzed and they gave him a clot buster and that allowed the paralysis to go back to normal and he was released from ICU, 5 days later. A few days later he was again rushed to Plainview with what seemed like a stoke as once again his left side and face and voice were paralyzed. This time they thought it was a TIA and he was released 4 days later. This past Sunday he was brought to Manhasset North Shore and they felt it was hemi plegic migrane. Ron is now home and his doctors have told him to stay off the phone, no social media, he can not drive.
He has seen Cardiologist, Neurologist, Stroke Neurologist, his GP, has seen the Gastro and pulmonary Dr and will ba seeing a special Neuro Optometrist and although they have him on meds to prevent another emergency run to the hospital they are all puzzled. They have him some new meds on THIRSDAY HOPING THATS HELPS HIM
He has very little balance, is dizzy, nauseated, very bad head aches, can’t eat, has lost a about 20lbs, sleeping about 19-20 hours a day and is frightened and scared. Marion with her own liver transplant issues is taking care of Ron the best way she can.
Starts physical therapy next week

If you have a family member, if you know a police officer or support police officers, please share on your wall...
Almighty God we pray to you
In heaven up above
Watch over our dear police officers
And protect them with your love.
Please guide them as they keep us
safe both day and night
And hold them firmly in your care
should danger come their way.
Give them true strength and courage
As they serve til duty's end
And one more thing to ask dear Lord
Protect their family and their friends.

SU***DE
I write this post after the news of the past several weeks that the su***de rate is increasing.
No ones, I repeat NO ONES life is as perfect as it appears to be on Facebook.
We all at one time in our lives have had our ups and downs, our happy and sad moments and our pain of fighting health issues, financial struggles and the loss of our loved ones.
It’s not weakness nor despair that cause us to doubt and wonder and feel down at different points in our life, but it is life itself.
While I can not speak for others I can say that life has its joys. Life has its times of feeling that all is bad and life can never be good, but this is a mistake.
I myself have lived thru a childhood without the true sense of a normal family.
My mother and father had been divorced my mother remarried and divorced again, never seeing my father until I was 12 and then only seeing him a half dozen times in my whole life, and finally living with my grandparents at the age of 11 or 12 on, after a school official discovered that I was in fact a battered child, as I was beaten regularly by my mother with a stick ball bat.
I worked a 40 hour a week job since I was 14, yes 14, and had many jobs to put myself thru college. ( pumped gas, Ice Cream Trucks, Drove a Cab, SIMONIZ Business, etc ) Had some major success in business employing over 100 people for about 20 years.
I lived thru a head on collision with a drunk driver, fought a fire in a NYC high rise office building, slid down a shoot of a commercial airliner with an engine on fire and lived thru an explosion where I was blown up.
I went thru a horrific divorce from my first marriage of 21 years that did take a toll on both my boys from that marriage. I also went thru some 40 plus major surgeries from 2002-2016 being hospitalized as many as 15-25 days each time. The pain I lived with and live with now would kill most people!!
I write this post not for any one to say wow or to have anyone feel badly, no sad faces please... but rather to encourage those that are out there thinking their life is hard. Thinking their life is over, ITS NOT !
I am no stronger mentally or physically than anyone of you, but, I have a strength of drive and moral fiber that my grandparents gave me along with all the love that any teenage boy could want.
So today, I live a life that many can only dream of. I love my careers as a Financial Advisor and as a Realtor.
I can not tell you how blessed I am, and how crazy in love I am with my wife Marion whom I have been with for the last 26 years.
I have 2 boys and 2 step sons along with daughter in laws and grandchildren.
I am lucky enough to have a few real friends.
I get up everyday to live my life as a good person and to make a difference in other people lives. I live by my philosophy of life by my 3 Commandments.
“ I get up everyday and do something good for myself, I get up everyday to do something good for someone I love and I get up everyday and do something good for a stranger.....I don’t always succeed but I try real hard.”
I’m not perfect and I am no saint.
I do have my priorities in life in the right place and I know right from wrong.
The point is, I have a marvelous life and I am truly content and happy with life in spite of all the challenges I have had.
If I had ever given up and committed the act of SU***DE I wouldn’t be here now to make a difference and love and be loved.

DON’T give in to yourself in a moment or a day or a week of weakness and feeling sorry for yourself.
If your feeling that you are at your wits end and have no hope ... If you are a neighbor, friend, JFK Alumni or someone that knows me, call me and I’ll be happy to talk to you or meet with you. 9178073394.
If your someone I don’t know, here is a number that can help you.
Su***de Hotline 800273TALK.
Feel free to share this post with others.
Sending my love to all.
Ronald Steiger
PS
If you think you know someone going thru something, they might not be able to ask you for help, so you should ask them if your suspicious about them being in a bad place.... let them know your care, are there for them, and want to help.

Life

What is your purpose in life
Why are you here
What Is the whole reason for your life

I wonder if my journey in life has changed me or the purpose for me to be here

I wonder if I have had a profound effect on someone or have I influenced someone else that will make a difference

What exactly does making a difference mean.
To whom or how many must you make a difference to before it becomes important

I have as I guess many of us, have lived my life, as I should have, to make myself happy

It’s that life long question of which came first, the chicken or the egg ?

Well when you’re born, you struggle to survive with the help of a person that cares for you while your helpless

The you start to grow, explor and learn as you become you
But during that growth, whether you know it or realize it or not, your existence is about making yourself happy

You develop relationships to make you happy
You explor food, entertainment, eduction, music and art and relationships etc etc to make yourself happy
Does that mean we are a selfish peoples

Over the last few years I have had days of just going through the motions and other days of being on top of the world

I do now know for the first time ever in my life know what it truely means to live for someone else

So my goal is still to make myself happy, but I make myself happiest when I am able to make a difference in a positive way for someone I love and others
Doesn’t even have to be someone I know and love but it can be a complete stranger

I find myself going through the day trying to make people I don’t know smile or give some happiness
It’s as simple as being online at the grocery store and saying to the cashier, you really have very pretty eyes.

Does that make me a phony, absolutely not, because I absolutely mean it
I look at people and I just find something good and positive to say to them

My grandparents tried to teach me that you should always try to make someone else’s day a bit better.

In this day and age, you never know how people take things so I have developed a way of getting across what I want to say, without getting in trouble

For example… if it happen to be a female and I want to give a compliment I simply say, “ excuse me, I’m not making a pass at you, I’m very happily married, but I just wanted to tell you that you are very pretty.

Wow, I discovered that giving a compliment really really can make someone’s day, especially if they know you have absolutely no ulterior motive.

When you see how you made a perfect stranger happy, it makes you happy to.

Anywho… I guess the whole purpose of this little memo was to get you to think of just how easy it would be for you to make someone else’s day special.

I know I’m on a mission because God has been so good to me by saving my Marion’s, Warrior Goddess Life, but if you think about it for a minute…. You too, that’s right, everyone of you reading this have something to be extremely grateful for in life….. so go pay it forward and give some happiness to a stranger today.

Please feel free to share this with others and consider signing up to become a organ donor.
Love
Ronald Steiger
